Grand Aegean & Adriatic Explorer gives 24 Mediterranean nights at the perfect time of year

Winter in the southern Mediterranean is a delight – very much the right place at the right time, less crowded and all yours to explore.

Cruise Traveller (cruisetraveller.com.au) has chosen that time of year for a sparkling new cruise holiday lasting 24 nights and called 'Grand Aegean and Adriatic Explorer'.

A fly-free offer gives free round-trip airfares from Australia to join the ship in Athens and return home from Venice. Transfers are included and the itinerary visits brilliant places away from the tourist beat.

The ship is MS Minerva, operated by Swan Hellenic. This boutique-size vessel carries no more than 350 passengers. There's a wide choice of included shore excursions.

'Grand Aegean and Adriatic Explorer' is available from A$9655 per person twin share, with FREE flights from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth to Athens and return from Venice. It's valid at that rate until 31 January 2016 unless sold out beforehand.

The cruise-holiday gets underway on 14 November 2016 with a flight from Australia to Athens to join MS Minerva. The ship boasts all the refinements of an intimate country house hotel, conveying guests in style and comfort to some the world's most fascinating destinations.

There is no shortage of those on this itinerary. The ship stays overnight in Kusadasi (gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus), Athens, Dubrovnik and Venice. You can perch on the peaks of Meteora, known for monasteries set on awe-inspiring heights. Get to know Pella, birthplace of Alexander the Great. A two-night stay in Istanbul gives time to discover its highlights including the Ottoman Blue Mosque. An extended stay in Piraeus includes a visit to Ancient Corinth where St Paul preached and lived for two years.

MS Minerva transits the narrow Corinth Canal and sails along Kotor Fjord to the medieval walled town of Kotor in Montenegro, one of the best preserved and most memorable medieval towns in the Adriatic, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Also listed by UNESCO is Dubrovnik, a masterpiece of cream-coloured stone. Sibenik in Dalmatia is another gem, offering some of the most memorable surroundings on the Croatian coast.

As well as a full exploration of Venice, Minerva offers a phenomenal variety of complimentary shore excursions. They are available on each day of the cruise and all are all covered by the fare.

Choices range from the Royal Tombs of Vergina to Aphrodisia and Nysa in Kusadasi, the Montenegro Riviera and Dubrovnik's Lokrum Island. Enjoy a tour of Split, a city on Croatia's Dalmatian Coast where date palms line a seafront esplanade in front of the Roman Emperor Diocletian's palace – a structure so well preserved that about 3000 people live within its walls today. Explore Istria and marvel at the Doges Palace and St Mark's Square in Venice.

An integrated program of talks by guest speakers aboard ship adds in-depth knowledge to the explorations. Another bonus is being able to forget about tipping – all gratuities, both aboard and while touring ashore, are covered in the upfront price. Entrance fees to places of interest visited are covered too, as are all shipboard main meals, including Welcome and Farewell Cocktail Parties followed by Gala Dinners.

Tigerair Australia Celebrates New Services Between Melbourne And Coffs Harbour Today

TIGERAIR AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES THREE WEEKLY RETURN SERVICES BETWEEN MELBOURNE AND COFFS HARBOUR TODAY

·        New route provides three weekly return services between Melbourne and Coffs Harbour and the only mid-week services between the two destinations.

·        Delivers over 56,000 additional visitor seats annually through Melbourne and Coffs Harbour Airports.

·        Celebratory sale launches today with fares from $49* each way (Melbourne – Coffs Harbour) and $29* each way (Sydney – Coffs Harbour).

·        Economic benefits for Coffs Harbour region estimated by independent consulting group AEC to be almost AUD $8 million per annum.

9 December 2015: Tigerair Australia today celebrates the launch of three new weekly return services between Melbourne and Coffs Harbour, in the process delivering 1,080 additional seats weekly to both destinations.

To celebrate the new route launching today, the airline is putting on a special launch day sale with fares for the new services between Melbourne and Coffs Harbour on sale from just $49* each way and  between Sydney and Coffs Harbour from $29* each way. The sale which commences today at midday (AEDT), ends midday Tuesday 15 December 2015, or until sold out. (Travel periods applicable to the sale for both routes extend from 01 May to 22 June 2016).

Tigerair's newest addition to the fleet, a brand new A320 aircraft with "sharklets" on the wingtips, will fly the inaugural flight from Melbourne to Coffs Harbour today, scheduled to land in Coffs Harbour at 10:55am. On board will be senior Tigerair Australia management and a number of Melbourne travel media and industry guests, who will stay in Coffs Harbour (Novotel Pacific Bay Resort) for a few days to experience some of the many tourism drawcards of the region.

Tigerair Commercial Director Adam Rowe said this is more welcome news for Coffs Harbour and NSW tourism as part of Tigerair Australia's next phase of growth.

"Recently we announced additional services on popular NSW routes such as Sydney – Adelaide, Sydney – Cairns and Sydney – Whitsunday Coast.  The new Melbourne – Coffs Harbour route provides the only mid-week services between Melbourne and Coffs Harbour and is estimated to provide significant economic value to the Coffs Harbour region of almost $8M a year by way of inbound passenger spend, as well as potential further growth and job development.

"Coffs Harbour has a great year round climate and many tourism drawcards that appeal to our core market of families, budget and leisure travellers. We're confident these new services will prove popular for Melburnians wanting to escape to a warmer and more temperate climate and also for Coffs residents wanting a break away or to visit friends and family down south."

Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Denise Knight welcomed today's new route launch: "The Melbourne market provides enormous economic possibilities for this region and Coffs Harbour City Council is looking forward to working with Tigerair to maximise the success of the route. We're also looking forward to welcoming many, many new visitors to the stunning North Coast of NSW."

Key facts:

·        New route: Between Melbourne and Coffs Harbour commences today:

·        Three weekly return flights depart Melbourne at 9:05am on Mondays and Wednesdays and 8:45am on Fridays, arriving into Coffs Harbour at 10:55am Monday and Wednesday and 10:35am on Fridays. Returning from Coffs Harbour at 11:25am Mondays and Wednesdays and at 11:05am on Friday.

·        New Melbourne – Coffs Harbour route delivers 1,080 additional visitor seats weekly through Melbourne and Coffs Harbour Airports or over 56,000 additional visitor seats annually.

·        Tigerair Australia first launched services between Sydney and Coffs Harbour in February 2013 as the airline's first intrastate route.

·        The new services from Melbourne complement Tigerair's existing three weekly return services between Sydney and Coffs Harbour (every Monday, Friday and Sunday).

·        With the new Melbourne – Coffs Harbour route, Tigerair will provide double the number of visitor seats currently available through Coffs Harbour Airport, with a total of 2,160 visitor seats through Coffs Harbour Airport each week or over 112,000 visitor seats annually.

·        The new route commencing today is part of the airline's next phase of growth announced recently, including additional domestic services (between Sydney and Adelaide, Sydney and Cairns and Sydney and Whitsunday Coast). New international services to Bali, from Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth commence March 2016.

·        Tigerair Australia remains committed to delivering the very best in terms affordable air fares, combined with on time flights, industry low cancellation rates and great customer service.

New river cruise products from Insider Journeys

Insider Journeys adds 3 new river cruise ships to existing portfolio and introduces river tours to selected Small Group Journeys

Insider Journeys has launched its ‘2015-17 Asian River Cruising’ brochure with itineraries across Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, India, and China. The company’s most comprehensive cruising brochure yet, the 90 page guide includes information on three new river cruise ships, the ‘Mekong Eyes’, ‘Pandaw’, and ‘RV Anawrohta’, Insider Journeys’ expanded range and its portfolio of more than 25 Asian river cruises.

As small boat specialists, Insider Journeys has introduced a new product option coupling a Small Group Journey with river cruise to serve the growing demand in the Asian river cruising market. The first such offering is its ‘Mekong & Beyond’ small group journey, which combines a complete river cruise and land tour for a 16 day two country exploration through Cambodia and Vietnam that includes 7 nights’ hotel accommodation and 8 nights’ cruising.

Additional nights cruising have also been added to the ‘Vietnam Discovery’ Small Group Journey with a night’s cruising on the Mekong as well as Halong Bay, and to the ‘Burma Revealed’ journey with two nights on the Irrawaddy.

Managing Director, Paul Hole, says Insider Journeys has combined cruise with land touring in response to passenger demand.

“Trip extensions have become very popular. In the last 12 months, Insider Journeys’ Mekong cruises have seen almost half of our passengers take the ‘Cruise Plus’ option of combining cruise and land arrangements,” says Hole.

The beautifully crafted ‘Pandaw’ ships have also been introduced into the Insider Journeys stable and their new itineraries include:

· A 15 day The Mekong: From Laos to China river cruise on the mighty upper Mekong River, from Vientiane to tropical Xishuangbanna in southern Yunnan, China, with an overland side trip to Burma.

From $11,932 (AUD) per person twin share

· An 11 day Red River Vietnam river cruise on the Red River Delta cruising into Ha Long Bay. The RV Angkor Pandaw sets sail from Hanoi on a round-trip adventure that includes scenic national parks, historic villages and hilltribe communities.

From $4,618 (AUD) per person twin share

Paul Hole says Insider Journeys’ Asia River cruising portfolio has expanded rapidly over the past three years.

“We’ve continued to expand our river cruise offerings to keep up with travellers’ seemingly insatiable appetite for new experiences along Asia’s fascinating main rivers. Increasingly, passengers are discovering how river cruising throughout Asia provides a unique opportunity to gain greater access and deeper insights into a way of life that has remained relatively unchanged,” says Hole.

The small boat specialists offer cruise bookings on a range of river cruises across Asia, including the ultra-luxury of Aqua Expedition’s Aqua Mekong. River cruising itineraries are offered on the Ganges (India), the Irrawaddy (Burma), the Mekong (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos) and the Yangtze (China).

Top Sydney sights to see while running the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival

On Sunday 20 September 2015, Blackmores Sydney Running Festival will see runners from all over the world racing around the harbour city whilst taking in a plethora of Sydney's iconic sights.

Now in its 15th year, the Blackmores Sydney Marathon attracts runners from across the globe and, after being awarded a prestigious Gold Label from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), it has become a world class running event alongside the London, Boston and New York marathons.

Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is Australia's most unique running event because of the myriad of iconic sights which can be seen along the course. Whether you are taking part in the 3.5km Family Fun Run or the full blown marathon event, you'll be sure to see some incredible landmarks and the more you run, the more you'll see.

Find the top ten Sydney sights below that you will see whilst participating in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival on Sunday 20 September 2015:

1.       Luna Park – Starting from Milson's Point, the famous moon face of Sydney's Luna Park will smile down on you as you take your first steps of the course. Commencing in Bradfield Park you will run directly past the restored fun-park which was first opened in 1935. Luna Park is one of Sydney's greatest venues for music gigs, hosting regular concerts at the Big Top, and offers elegant cuisine at The Deck restaurant. Needless to say, it also offers million dollar views of Sydney Harbour which are best seen from atop one of the park's many exhilarating rides.

2.       The Sydney Harbour Bridge – After running past the suburb of Kirribilli, famous for being the location of the Australian Prime Minister's official Sydney residence, you will approach a world-renowned iconic Australian landmark; the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival offers runners the unique opportunity to cross the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge on foot and
traffic-free.

As you run over the bridge don't forget to look up. From the deck below you can truly appreciate the engineering genius that went into the building of the world's largest steel arch bridge. You might even spot some people up there taking part in a Sydney BridgeClimb experience.

3.       Sydney Opera House – As you continue along the deck of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, cast your eyes to the left and you will see the distinctive white sails of the world heritage listed Sydney Opera House. This world-class performing arts centre is a must-see landmark for visitors to Sydney and has become a symbol of both the city and the Australian nation.

4.       Fort Denison – From the high vantage point of the bridge you can also spot Fort Denison, a small island right in the middle of the harbour. Fort Denison has had a varied past – it has been used as a fishing spot, defence structure, navigational guide, tide gauge station, weather station and time marker. Today, the tiny island houses an historic museum and a beautiful restaurant with a modern Australian menu. A five minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will drop you off at this incredible lunch spot on the harbour.
