As one of Australia’s premier whale-watching venues, Port Stephens draws large numbers of whale-seeking visitors each winter, with local cruise operators meeting the growing demand and each scoring close to a 100 per cent sighting rate on every departure during the area’s extended whale-watching season from May to November.

Destination Port Stephens Chairman, Michael Aylmer, said more than 50,000 visitors travel to Port Stephens each year to spot the magnificent humpbacks, injecting $10 million into the local economy. Around 17,000 whales are expected to be seen off Port Stephens this year as they migrate for the winter along the ‘Humpback Highway’.
