Sea World Releases Baby Humpback from Nets

The Sea World Research and Rescue team today went to the rescue of an entrapped baby humpback whale off Mermaid Beach.

The whale had been entangled in shark netting. The rescue team, which included Queensland Boating and Fisheries, were able to get the 5 metre humpback free within an hour.

Sea World Director of Marine Sciences Trevor Long said that the whale appeared to be tired from the ordeal but moved off with fellow whales soon after.

"It was a good ending" he said.

Sea World were able to capture vision of the rescue - media will be provided with footage and stills on request. Trevor Long will be available for interview at 3pm at Sea World
