Experience Antarctica in One Day

#antarctica
2014-15 Season Brochure
Copyright: Antarctica Flights
Antarctica Flights announces five flights over the upcoming summer including the always popular New Year's Eve celebration flight from Sydney.

A pristine white landscape will greet travellers seeing the first daylight of 2015 on an entirely unique New Years Eve flight to Antarctica. The specially chartered Qantas 747 flight, the only one day Antarctica sightseeing flight in the world, will take in the icebergs, coastal cliffs, glaciers and spectacular mountain ranges for which Antarctica is renowned for.

Quality celebratory drinks plus dinner and a live on board jazz band add to the once in a lifetime excitement of the New Years Eve “Midnight Sun” flight.

Other Antarctica flights, departing from Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane are offered in January and February 2014.

According to Phil Asker, Founder & Director of Antarctica Flights, “The length of time sailing rough seas and the cost of a cruise to Antarctica means the closest most people will ever come to seeing the world's last great wilderness is via their TV screen.

Our one day sightseeing flights enable more people to fulfil what is often a lifelong dream, of seeing Antarctica.”

“The full majesty of the landscape is seen from the aircraft and expert Antarctic expeditioners are on board to talk about the polar environment and life on the ground,”

For 20 years, Antarctica Flights has taken more than 31,000 travellers on over 110 flights across the Antarctic and, according to Mr Asker, the New Years Eve flight remains the most popular. “Flying over the Antarctic is such an amazing way to start the New Year. People who've done the trip previously have said that it really sets the tone for the year ahead. There is something special about being amongst the first in the world to see in the New Year in daylight.”

Antarctica flights take approximately four hours to reach the South Magnetic Pole, descending over spectacular sea ice and icebergs and crossing the Antarctic coast near the French research base at Dumont d'Urville.

From there the aircraft flies over magnificent glaciers and ice fields before continuing to Cape Hudson and Cape Washington and the astounding Trans Antarctic Range.

Up to 19 different routes are available to take advantage of the clearest weather conditions of the day, ensuring the best possible views of the Antarctic landscape.

Feel Revived by Anantara Spa's Eastern and Western Autumn Breeze Package at The PuLi Hotel and Spa

Each changing season sheds the old and ushers in new beginnings, and Anantara Spa's special Autumn Breeze package at The PuLi Hotel and Spa offers a unique combination of revered eastern and western therapies, available throughout September, October and November 2014.

Designed with Chinese and Thai influences, revealing views of Jing'An Park, Anantara Spa is a haven of contemporary luxury and tranquillity that feels a world away from bustling Shanghai.  Escorted to one of the five charming treatment suites, individuals and couples can look forward to far reaching health and beauty benefits when they book the Rejuvenating Winter Wellness package.

The Recovery of Thailands Andaman Coast, Four Years After the Tsunami
The ritual begins with a 90 minute Swedish Massage with Herbal Oil. Since it was developed nearly 200 years ago, Swedish Massage has become the foundation of most western massage techniques. Incorporating percussive, tapping movements and five variations of
strokes, each part of the body is manipulated to stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation and flexibility, and enhance physical and mental wellbeing.

Drawing on ancient Chinese wellness wisdom, a 30 minute Moxibustion Treatments tailored to each client's needs, with a choice of selecting this specialist treatment for the shoulder and neck, lower back, or belly button.

Moxibustion is an ancient technique practiced in both traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine to aid the body's ability to heal itself.  This ancient Asian holistic therapy involves burning the herb mugwort to stimulate acupoints.  The radiant heat produced by the burning herbs penetrates deeply into the body, expelling cold and warming the meridians to stimulate the flow of blood circulation and vital energy, leading to improved general health and a wealth of specific benefits.  Moxibustion is used to treat cancer and chronic conditions such as arthritis, digestive disorders and ulcers, and since it increases circulation to the pelvis it is also used to encourage healthy menstruation and reduce menstrual cramps.  By invigorating healthy qi the immune system is strengthened, helping to prevent disease and increase longevity.

Traditionally there are two types of moxibustion.  In direct moxibustion, a small, cone-shaped amount of moxa is placed on top of an acupuncture point and burned.  For indirect moxibustion, a practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick and holds it close to the area being treated for several minutes until the area turns red. Acupuncture can also be incorporated, with a needle inserted into an acupoint and the tip wrapped in moxa and ignited, generating heat to the point and surrounding area.

The Autumn Breeze ritual marries tradition and innovation by using a highly effective and safe machine lamp for the moxibustion treatment.  In this modern method the cover is placed on specific areas of the body that each client wishes to focus on.   The machine makes it easy for the therapist to adjust the temperature control and locate acupuncture points easily, while clients benefit from a comfortable experience without the fire and smoke that occurs with traditional methods.

Experience the relaxing and holistic benefits of the Autumn Breeze package for the special price of RMB 1, 480* per individual and RMB 2, 600* per couple, including a complimentary Anantara body care product worth RMB 380 to take home.

Explore Glasgow, Edinburgh and much more of Scotland through CIE Tours.

“Braveheart” or “Brigadoon”?
Depending on your age, either the Mel Gibson drama or the Gene Kelly movie musical, respectively, probably piqued your interest in Scotland. And why not? A country that battled England for its independence (it may finally get it this year through the ballot box), and one so gorgeous it makes grown men sing of “the heather on the hill” (at least on screen) will have that effect. Today's Scotland, though, is what one writer calls “an eclectic blend of old world charm and new world glitz.” And with the latest, all-inclusive Scottish Isles and Glens package from CIE Tours, which just received the prestigious Scotland's Heritage “International Tour Operator of the Year” award, your stay isn't limited to just the two major cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Not when there are all those grand castles, picturesque lochs, and friendly villages waiting to be explored.

Among the tour's highlights:
  • The Isle of Iona. One word: otherworldly. That's the sensation you're left with from this holy place famous for its Celtic crosses and fully restored cathedral where 50 Scottish kings were buried during the Middle Ages.
  • The 5,000-Year-Old Village of Skara Brae. The BBC calls it “one of the most remarkable discoveries in modern archaeology.” What no one seems to have the answer to is this: What were the farmers who once lived in the intricate maze of dwellings hiding in the secret spaces found under stone dressers?
  • The Scottish Highlands. Here's where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Highlanders were defeated by King George II's forces at the bloody Battle of Culloden in 1746. It's also where dogs still herd sheep. You'll see that and more after driving along the stunningly scenic shores of Loch Ness. (Monster alert!)
  • The Ghost Tour. Tax collectors and bootleggers once clashed beneath the now-famed Royal Mile thoroughfare in the capital city of Edinburgh, which might explain why so many spots are said to be haunted. Your tour guide provides what we'll call “energetic accounts” of the alternately horrific and hilarious details.
  • The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Don't let the title throw you. With the world-famous Edinburgh Castle as a backdrop, this is really a huge international festival featuring bagpipes, highland dancing, and military bands.
