SHE launches new Sri Lanka retreats – and this time men are invited

#expeditioncruising .

Expanding on its women-only surfing retreats to Bali, SHE surfs has teamed up with Westside Yoga for ‘Earth to Ocean’ – a marriage of fitness, adventure and spiritualism in Sri Lanka.

The first Earth to Ocean experience will launch late November and promises to take participants “to their edge”, teaching skills for life that they can take home and utilise daily. And for the first time, men will also be able to enjoy a SHE surfs experience.

The timing is especially convenient for travellers from Melbourne as SriLankan Airlines is launching direct flights to Colombo from 29 October, while those from other locations are recommended to fly to Singapore and connect to Colombo.

SHE has selected the seaside area of Kabalana for its pristine beaches, intriguing history, and its untapped attractions that should impress even seasoned travellers.

Founder of Westside Yoga Mark Pheely said, “I grew up in Queensland and am a long-time surfer. The essence of yoga and surfing is seamless – it’s the same principles. At the end of this trip, our participants will be able to stay more grounded, connected and more mindful in their everyday world.”

Suzanne Hart of SHE surfs said the seven-day experience would incorporate al fresco daily yoga overlooking the ocean, surf lessons catered to any skill level including beginner, and massages to soothe newly-used muscles.

“As always, we will cater for the solo traveller who wants to try something new in the comfort of a group, but Earth to Ocean is also perfect for couples who may have tried either surfing or yoga and want to share their loves.

“With Mark on board and a group size capped at 14, it’s a genuine, boutique adventure with a special connection to nature,” Ms Hart said.

Two modern villas will house Earth to Ocean guests with direct access to a white sand beach, air-conditioning, an ensuite for each bedroom and a resident chef sourcing produce from the local markets. Two pools overlooking the ocean and gardens sprinkled with coconut trees will add to the feeling of escapism.

According to Mark, who has practiced yoga for 15 years and taught for 5 of those, “When I surf, I get the sense that the water remembers me and sometimes I will just sit in the ocean on a surfboard. It’s a real quietness of mind in this busy world.

“Sri Lanka is an untapped, underdeveloped wonderland. Its spiritualism is more subtle than in other countries, the food is extraordinary, it’s accessible and the coastline is stunning. All of that combined makes for a delicious melting pot of experiences.”
