Australian tour company, Active Travel, which specialises in 'immersing' guests in foreign cultures, will offer its first tour to Iran this October as well as a soft adventure Moroccan itinerary that will see guests ride camels across the Sahara and spend the night in carpet-endowed Berber tents.
Bookings for either escorted tour made before June 13, 2014, will attract a $250 discount on international flights booked through Active Travel or a $250 discount on the single supplement.
The new 14-day 'Iran-Essence of Persia' tour offers Australians the chance to experience what it's like to live in one of the world's oldest cultures, with guests experiencing traditional cuisine and music in the homes of locals who are renowned for their friendliness and generosity. Starting on October 13, 2014, and hosted by Australian National University arts and crafts lecturer, Roy Forward, the tour will visit ruins and cultural sites of ancient Persian civilisations dating back 2500 years as well as Iran's great, blue-tiled mosques, ornate gardens and old-world bazaars overflowing with traditional crafts in cities like Esfahan, Yazd, Shiraz and the capital, Tehran.
Meanwhile, the 16-day 'Souks and Kasbahs of Morocco' tour from October 10, 2014, includes visits to destinations like Marrakesh, Casablanca and Fez, with guests taken to colourful, century-old souks, filled with storytellers, musicians, jugglers, Moorish wares and snake charmers and where bartering, trading and commerce continue as they have for centuries. Hosted by arts and crafts expert, Sue Buckle, the itinerary also features Roman ruins, local textile outlets and the Sahara Desert where a camel trek across the dunes will take riders to kasbahs, or citadels, in palm-fringed oases. One memorable night is spent in traditional Berber tents after a feast of local cuisine and music.
Including 25 meals, the 'Iran-Essence of Persia' tour is available from $4985 per person, twin-share, with a $785 single supplement. The 'Souks and Kasbahs of Morocco' package, which includes 24 meals, is priced from $4986 per person, twin-share, with an $1880 single supplement. Flights from Australia to Iran or Morocco are extra. A $250 discount on international flights booked in conjunction with the tour through Active Travel, or a $250 reduction of the single supplement, is available for bookings made on either tour before June 13, 2014. Conditions apply.
