Crystal Cruises Features Spectacular Holiday Sailings for 2014 & 2015

We're inviting our nicest guests — and even the naughty ones — to fulfill both their bucket lists and their holiday wish lists with unforgettable luxury cruise experiences for the Christmas and New Year's holidays this year and next.

While experiencing the magic of the season through the eyes of locals in AsiaSouth America and the Caribbean, you can create your own memories in the luxury we have perfected over the last 25 years.

Sailing round-trip from Singapore starting December 21, the itinerary rings in the New Year with Crystal Symphony berthed at Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. The prime positioning allows for a comfortably luxurious "front row" view of the fireworks countdown celebration, specially-illuminated skyscrapers, musical pyrotechnics, and the Symphony of Lights.
Crystal Symphony takes travelers to the heart of two of the world's most dramatic New Year's celebrations with two very different 15-day voyages:

2014, ChinaVietnamCambodia and Singapore
Sailing round-trip from Singapore on December 21, the "China Sea Holiday Spectacular" offers ample opportunity to immerse yourself in these storied destinations, with two nights in Ho Chi Minh City (including Christmas day/night), two nights in Hong Kong (includingNew Year's Eve), and calls in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, from whence travelers can explore Angkor Wat; and Nha Trang, Vietnam, a prime spot for scuba diving and seaside leisure. The itinerary rings in the New Year with Crystal Symphony situated in the proverbial front row of Victoria Harbour, as fireworks flash across Hong Kong's skyline, allowing guests to enjoy the elaborate show from the ship.

2015, BrazilPuerto Rico and surrounding islands
Travelers seeking hot sunshine and even hotter cultural highlights will find both aboard the December 19 "Brazilian Holiday" itinerary, marking our first embarkation in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sailing to Rio de Janeiro, the cruise focuses on Brazil's colorful cities, pristine beaches, coral reefs and famous nightlife. An overnight New Year's Eve stay in Rio allows guests to revel in the fireworks and indulge in flowing champagne at Copacabana Beach for the annual New Year celebration. Afterward, they can spend a day of leisure in Buzios before returning to Rio for the after party on a second overnight call. The voyage also calls in Scarborough (maiden visit), Trinidad and Tobago; Devil's Island, Iles du Salut, French Guiana; and FortalezaRecife and Salvador da BahiaBrazil.

Crystal Serenity's holiday options focus on the warmth of the season, with two round-trip itineraries from Miami:
2014, Caribbean Islands
Think sand castles, not snow angels. Those who are averse to snow and ice will appreciate the warm festivities of the Caribbean saints — St. Lucia, St. Barts and St. Maarten — plus BarbadosCuracao, Turks & Caicos and Tortola, on the December 21 "Caribbean Holiday Escape." Each port boasts historical sites and remnants of its distinct multicultural past, yet all offer guests a taste of the islands' idyllic, relaxed pace of life. Spend New Year's Eve meandering the waterfront promenades of Curacao before returning to the ship for a Six-Star celebration.

2015, CaribbeanSouth America and Mexican Coast
The laid-back island life of Turks & Caicos and Curacao, blended with the spice and heritage of HondurasColombia and Mexico, create an ideal holiday for those whose New Year's resolutions include things like exploring Mayan ruins, mingling with wildlife in a coastal Colombian national park, and snorkeling and scuba diving along the world's largest network of coral reefs. It's all about balance. The December 22 "Haute Caribbean Holidays" allows for exploration of the past in centuries-old cities like Santa Marta andCartagenaColombia, and Roatan Island, Honduras, then welcomes the unknown of the coming year while decking Crystal Serenity's luxurious halls.

Half World Explorer takes you from Britain to Sydney on two-month Explorer of the Seas voyage

As cruise holidays go, this one is simplicity itself, focussing on a grand voyage across half of the world on a magnificent ship, Royal Caribbean’s 3800-passenger, 138,000-ton Explorer of the Seas.

Named ‘Half World Explorer’, the latest offering from Worldwide Cruise Centres (worldwidecruisecentres.com.au) starts with a flight from Sydney to London to spend a couple of nights in the heart of Britain’s capital.

Then, board Explorer of the Seas, one of the finest ships afloat, and sail all the way back to Sydney. Explorer of the Seas was launched in 2000 and is currently based near New York. The voyage from Southampton to Sydney lasts 58 nights (two months), stopping in some fabulous places in Europe, Asia and New Zealand – plus a few ports in Australia as well.

The cruise consists of five back-to-back sailings and every effort will be made to ensure you have the same cabin number throughout, a useful feature. Final discretion on that always remains with the cruise line.unnamed (40)
‘Half World Explorer’ lasts 62 days (almost nine weeks) and costs from A$9899 twin share per person, valid at that rate until 31 January 2015 unless it sells out beforehand. A bonus offer of US$275 in onboard credit per twin/quad cabin applies and the holiday departs Sydney on 29 September 2015.

The voyage promises to be very special. Explorer of the Seas is to be based in Sydney and will be the largest cruise ship ever to be deployed to the Australasian region. This will be the ship’s first voyage from Europe to its new home port.

Here, in a nutshell, are the places you can look forward to visiting as Explorer of the Seas heads from Southampton to Sydney: Vigo, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz, Spain; Gibraltar, United Kingdom; Barcelona, Spain; Chania, Crete; Ashdod (Jerusalem), Israel; Suez Canal; Aqaba, Jordan; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Mormugao, India; Cochin (Kochi), India; Penang, Malaysia; Port Klang (Port Kelang), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore; Langkawi, Malaysia; Phuket, Thailand; Perth (Fremantle), Western Australia; Adelaide, South Australia; Melbourne, Victoria; Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound in New Zealand’s South Island, Dunedin (Port Chalmers), Picton and Wellington, New Zealand.

Explorer of the Seas is an exciting destination in itself. Ship highlights include an ice-skating rink, the Royal Promenade and a rock-climbing wall. This cruise ship is so high-tech, it even features the University of Miami Ocean Lab, a state-of-the-art oceanographic and atmospheric science laboratory.

All shipboard main meals (excluding specialty restaurants) are included. So are ships gratuities, so you won’t need to bother with the hassle of onboard tipping.

Before the cruise, enjoy two nights in London staying at The Doubletree by Hilton Westminster Hotel. After breakfast each morning, London is yours to explore. The Houses of Parliament and London Eye are nearby. Catch West End theatre, cross the Millennium Footbridge and view the Tate Gallery.

Some ports Explorer of the Seas will visit, such as Barcelona, Lisbon and Dubai are justly famous. Others are less known but no less fascinating. Spain’s Vigo, located just north of Portugal dates from Roman times and is known for its beaches. Cádiz on Spain’s southern coast may be the oldest inhabited city in the western world; it’s a popular destination for Spaniards but little known to tourists.

Gibraltar, with its troops of Barbary apes, is much fun. Chaniá, second largest city in  Crete, is the site of the ancient Minoan settlement the Greeks called Cydonia. Ashdod in Israel, mentioned 13 times in the Bible, is one of word’s the oldest cities. Aqaba in Jordan, once a sleepy fishing village, now boast five-star hotels. You can see Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia from here.

India’s Goa (Mormugao), once a Portuguese colony and then a hippie hangout, is more hip these days than hippie. Kochi (also known as Cochin) is a spice trading port known as the ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’.

Wonderful places like Penang, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Thailand’s isle of Phuket, are bywords among Aussie travellers. Singapore is similarly favoured.

‘Half World Explorer’ visits three great Australian state capitals: Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne. But the holiday doesn’t end there. Cross the Tasman to New Zealand to visit scenically stunning Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound in the South Island. Explorer of the Seas also calls at the university city of Dunedin (try a glass of Emerson’s Bookbinder bitter in Port Chalmers), picturesque Picton and Wellington, the country’s quirky, charming capital.

After New Zealand you’ll soon dock in the final port of call, Sydney, to disembark with a thousand tales to tell.

Tauck Marks 90th Anniversary with Special Heli-Exploring Departures

Ninety years after Arthur Tauck Sr., helped launch the escorted tour industry, the family-owned and operated company bearing his name will be celebrating the pioneering spirit and traditions of innovation that continue to drive it today.

To mark its 90th anniversary next summer, and for a limited number of departures only, Tauck will once again operate “heli-hiking” (or “Heli-Exploring” as it is now deemed by Tauck) trips in the Canadian Rockies.

Tauck Heli-Exploring_Bugaboo

Invented in the 1970s by Arthur Tauck Jr., Tauck’s chairman and son of the company’s founder, heli-exploring brings guests high into the Canadian Rockies via helicopter to experience incredible alpine wonders paired with the comforts and convenience of lodges originally built for helicopter-assisted ski vacations.

Tauck will operate six departures of its “Bugaboos Adventure” in July and August of next year. The seven-day itinerary (from $5,990 per person, double occupancy, plus airfare) begins with two nights at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Banff National Park. On Day 3, guests will board helicopters and be transported to the Bugaboo Lodge high in the Purcell Mountains. During a three-night stay at the lodge guests will explore the surrounding area on guided daily walks in small groups based on guests’ preference for easier or more challenging terrain.
On Day 6 guests will be ferried by helicopter down from the Purcells, exploring Yoho National Park and visiting Emerald Lake while en route to a final night spent at the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. Included in the price are all lodging, helicopter and ground transportation, airport transfers, all meals (except for one lunch at Lake Louise), most gratuities, and much more.

THE BIRTH OF HELI-HIKING
Heli-hiking was born in the late 1970s when Arthur Tauck Jr. was enjoying a heli-skiing vacation at an alpine lodge in the Canadian Rockies. Befriending the lodge’s owner, Hans Gmoser, Tauck asked how the lodge and two others owned by Gmoser were utilized in the warmer summer months. To Tauck’s surprise, Gmoser replied that the lodges were mothballed until the following ski season.

Recognizing an opportunity, Tauck proposed a partnership with Gmoser in which Tauck would bring guests of all ages and abilities to the lodges during the summer months, allowing them to experience alpine landscapes and amazing views previously enjoyed only by skilled mountaineers. Tauck’s first heli-hiking trips began operating in 1978 and for 31 years they were rated #1 among all Tauck itineraries for guest satisfaction. At the same time, they also provided Arthur Tauck Jr. with some of the most gratifying moments in an illustrious career spanning more than 50 years in the travel industry.

“As I look back over our 90-year history in the travel business, hosting guests all over the world, one of my greatest pleasures has been seeing and hearing the emotions expressed by guests who went heli-exploring with us in Western Canada’s magnificent mountains,” recalls Tauck. “I am thrilled that we are bringing back this opportunity for our guests in 2015 on ‘Bugaboo Adventure,’ for it truly is an experience of a lifetime that is unequalled anywhere.”

PIONEERING SPIRIT AND HISTORY OF INNOVATION
Where Tauck’s “Bugaboos Adventure” celebrates the birth of heli-hiking, the first-ever Tauck journey in 1925 was no less creative despite its more humble trappings. That initial Tauck “tour” (a six-day, 1,100 mile, all-inclusive trip that cost $69) was in fact a modified sales trip through New England and south-eastern Canada led by Arthur Tauck Sr., a self-educated and self-employed inventor and travelling salesman.

The decades since have seen a steady stream of Tauck innovations reflecting Arthur Tauck Sr’s pioneering spirit. In the 1950s and 1960s respectively (and after being awarded the first-ever Tour Brokers license by the federal Interstate Commerce Commission), the company was the first to combine private air charters with escorted tours, and it opened the castle-hotels of the Canadian Rockies to group travel at a time when the hotels were owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway and reserved essentially for their clients only.

More recently, Tauck has expanded to operate in more than 70 countries and on all seven continents, launching Tauck Bridges trips for families, small-group Culturious journeys for active boomer-age travellers, and a portfolio of European river cruises that have been voted the “world’s best” by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine in each of the past two years. The company has also formed innovative alliances to provide its guests with deeper and more enriching immersion into various destinations, working with the award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns on a number of domestic itineraries and once-in-a-lifetime events, and partnering with the nature documentarians at BBC Earth on a collection of Tauck Earth Journeys safaris and other itineraries providing unique access to the wonders of the natural world.

TAUCK’S 2015 NORTH AMERICAN PORTFOLIO
Tauck will operate 38 all-inclusive land journeys in North America in the coming year, from an expedition in Manitoba, Canada, coinciding with the annual polar bear migration there, to a five-day exploration of the roots and legacy of jazz music with Ken Burns in New Orleans. Also included are five Tauck Bridges itineraries, a new Earth Journeys exploration of Alaska in partnership with BBC Earth, and a special five-day event exploring the culture and history of New York City.
