Couples can start their night at Fatty Crab to ‘wet’ their appetite for the night’s later surprises.

The 5-course crab menu (HK$800 per person) includes a glass of house red or white wine and begins with a mouth-watering Smoked Crab Laksa made of Fatty Crab’s signature Chili Crab will spice up Valentine’s Daylai fun noodles, daikon and Thai basil to slurp. Couples can share a plate of Crab Claws prepared with snow crab, black pepper and ginger butter to build up the flavours before diving into Crab Cakes, a mix of jumbo lump crab meat, roasted chili aioli and mixed greens that will pleasure the senses.

The signature Chili Crab made with pacific Dungeness crab, chili sauce and Pullman toast will peak the experience before allowing guests to ease into a Warm Chocolate Cake served with ginger crème anglaise and mixed berries, an aphrodisiac that will lead to a night of sweet surrender.

Guests may order from the a la carte menu if they are craving for other signatures that are less ‘crabby’ such as the Crispy Pork and Watermelon Salad (HK$150) or the Bacon and Clams (HK$160). Late night revellers and singletons that rather have a stimulating cocktail such as Prison Sex (HK$120) or Fidelity (HK$125) can spend their evening at the Fatty Bar.

Fatty Crab guarantees to spice up your night with a delicious helping of crabs this Valentine’s Day.

New Segway Eco Tours on the Beaches of the Illawarra

The pristine beaches and hinterland of the Illawarra on the NSW South Coast can now be explored during high-tech adventures aboard Segway personal transporters.

New business, Segway Tours South Coast, has begun offering eco adventure tours for individuals, families and groups in Killalea State Park near Shellharbour, with all riders receiving a 10 per cent discount on accommodation at the 4.5-star Sebel Harbourside Kiama.

Santa on a Segway on South CoastSegway Tours South Coast has been established by husband and wife team and parents of two children, David and Jennifer Munn, who gave up professional careers after falling in love with the $10,000 electric vehicles and deciding to marry the scenery of the South Coast with the growing appeal of the futuristic Segways.

Segway tours from 30 to 90 minutes are available at beautiful Killalea State Park, 90 minutes south of Sydney between Shellharbour and Kiama. The sprawling 265-hectare coastal reserve protects extensive, swan-filled wetlands and seabird breeding areas, pockets of rainforests, Aboriginal heritage and two of the South Coast’s prettiest beaches, Killalea Beach which is home to the famous surf break, ‘The Farm’, and Minnamurra Beach or ‘Mystics’ as surfers call this long stretch of sand.

The signature 90-minute trip to “The Farm’ offers a guided environmental tour of the tranquil lagoons and along old jeep tracks leading through the forest and dunes down to Killalea Beach where riders, standing on the head-turning machines, can enjoy the unique thrill of gliding effortlessly and quietly along the golden sands just metres from the surf.

All tours include 30 minutes of instruction and practice on the self-balancing, two-wheeled Segways, which are easy to use, extremely manoeuvrable, ‘intuitive’ to operate and fun to ride. Just lean in the direction you want to travel and the low-impact Segway will move without any hand or foot operation. The Segways, which can reach speeds of 20 km/h, are suitable for anyone aged 10 and over weighing up to 117kg. Tours accommodate a maximum of eight riders.

“Our Segways offer an innovative, sustainable and very exciting way to experience the beauty of Killalea,” said David Munn, adding that team-building group experiences at any location had also been introduced, with obstacle courses, time trials and ball sports available. Special occasions such as birthdays and even weddings were also catered for. “Most people can’t stop smiling as soon as they start riding the Segways.”
Tours run on weekends and during school holidays and are available from $39 (30 mins) to $89 (90-minute tour to ‘The Farm’), including tuition, bottled water and sunscreen. All riders also receive a 10 per cent discount on accommodation off the day’s best rate at the Sebel Harbourside Kiama, with tariffs at the seaside hotel, including the discount, available from $170 per room per night. Accommodation is subject to availability and rates can change according to seasons.  Guests can show their Segway booking confirmation at The Sebel to receive the discount. Gift vouchers are also available.

Summer a bonanza for Brisbane tourism

 Inline images 1

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said summer represented a bonanza for Brisbane's tourism industry thanks to a packed calendar of major events and attractions.

"Whether its sport, art, theatre, music, comedy, shopping, fine dining, markets or festivals, Brisbane has it covered this summer," said Cr Quirk.

"Visitors are drawn here in summer because of our city's energetic atmosphere and refreshing sub-tropical climate.

"Streets Beach at South Bank is Australia's only inner city beach and we also offer vibrant urban precincts, along with rainforests, vineyards and the natural beauty of Moreton Bay and other regions on our doorstep.

"Brisbane Marketing's $680,000 summer tourism campaign was launched in October to attract holiday-makers to a number of high-profile events.

"One the highlights of the summer is the Brisbane International tennis tournament which starts on 29 December and this year features world class players like Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt and Serena Williams.

"Over the past two years it has attracted more than 180,000 spectators from Queensland, interstate and overseas and this year's tournament is expected to be the largest yet.

"Christmas in the City is wowing crowds, especially in King George Square where visitors can enjoy both the largest solar-powered Christmas tree in the Southern Hemisphere and the Gold Lotto City Hall Light Spectacular. The Christmas spirit has continued across the River with the Bright Star program at South Bank.

"Other major attractions include the Australian exclusive exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth at the Gallery of Modern Art.

"An internationally-renowned contemporary artist, Cai Guo-Qiang's spectacular Queensland-inspired installations have been amazing crowds of all ages and GOMA expects a bumper summer for the exhibition and its accompanying free Children's Art Centre activities.

"There is also a stunning line up at QPAC including the Australian premiere of The Rocky Horror Show, tickets to which are flying out the door, and Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced.

"Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures has been a huge success for Queensland Museum and in January, the Barmy Army will be back in town for the Carlton MID One Day International between Australia and England.

"Events such as these have a flow-on effect and I know many Brisbane Marketing members including hotels, restaurants and tour operators have reported a summer surge in bookings."

Cr Quirk said the Brisbane Marketing's summer campaign included 52 industry partners ranging from events and festivals to tour operators and accommodation houses and incorporated billboards, a high profile newspaper lift-out and bus advertising in addition to a strong on-going digital campaign.

"Brisbane experienced a 17 percent increase in holiday visitation in the year ending September 2013 (Tourism Research Australia)," Cr Quirk said.

"We will continue to promote Brisbane, particularly through activity around the 2014 G20 Leaders Summit which is on here next November."

Brisbane summer highlights include:

    • The Australian premiere of The Rocky Horror Show
    • Woodford Folk Festival
    • Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth, Gallery of Modern Art

Now Open: Ham & Sherry sets anchor on Ship Street

Ham & Sherry, a sherry and jamón bar collaboration by entrepreneur Yenn Wong and British Chef Jason Atherton, the wining team behind 22 Ships, is now open on Ship Street.

The pair is working closely with the world’s leading sherry producers to offer over 50 varieties and styles – creating Asia’s largest sherry list. Guests can swirl and sip upon world-class favourites including Equipo Navazos, Osbourne and Co. and the Gonzalez Byass “Palmas Range”. The bar boasts sherries from the most famous of all, the elBulli cellar.

Untitled
“Ham & Sherry brings the essence of Spanish culture to the table. With over 50 varieties and styles, we offer Asia’s largest sherry list, as well as the highest quality hams that Spain has to offer. In creating a traditional bodega - a meeting point and social establishment – our focus is on the friendly and relaxed vibe, where friends can hang out and chat over sherry and a tasty bite to eat,” says Atherton.

“Ham & Sherry is our statement that sherry is back in vogue,” says Wong. With a crisp and refreshing bang, Josef Murray, General Manager of both Ham & Sherry and 22 Ships, and the catalyst to Hong Kong’s growing sherry culture, is excited to explain the wide variety of tastes that sherry has to offer. Standing beside him is Neil Rivington from London’s celebrated La Bodega Negra and Soho House, who brings his cultured attitude and cocktails to the bar. Together they guide customers through their sherry experiences.

The menu, crafted by Jason Atherton and brought to the bar by Executive Chef Lee Westcott, is comprised of an On Board section featuring Spanish jamón, Para Picar of small sharing sized dishes, SaladsPan Con “On Toast” and Sweets. Guests can savour a range of specially aged Spanish ham including Jamón Iberico de Bellota aged 40-48 months (small $240, large $330), Iberico paleta aged 36 months (small $140, large $190) and Jamón De Teruel PDO aged 24 months (small $90, large $125). For those who fancy a bit of everything, the Chef Selection mixed board is the perfect option ($200). Like any traditional tapas bar, a selection of Para Picar allows guests to nibble on and share between them whilst enjoying their tipples. Dishes include the classic Padron peppers ($68), Paella arancini, chorizo and pepper puree ($68), Goats curd and jamón croquettes ($75) and Garlic fries with brava sauce ($68). Pan Con “On Toast” options include Seared beef, manchego and rocket ($98), Gambas, fennel and aioli ($118) and Sobrasada and fried quail egg($98). Dessert options include Crème Catalan, berries and crumbled hazelnuts ($48) and Warm chocolate mousse with candied orange($48).
Untitled
The design pays homage to Spain’s flamboyant culture. Featuring vibrant Spanish-style tiling on its interior and exterior, Ham & Sherry has a spatial experience both inside and out. Designed by award-winning Shanghai-based architectural design practice Neri&Hu, the team has turned the 1,300 square foot space into a traditional Spanish bodega with a modern twist.
