The Moorings celebrates 50 years with up to 20% off

To celebrate their 50th anniversary The Moorings is offering up to 20% off charter holidays in Tahiti, Croatia, Greece, Spain and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) in February.

Relax and set sail for the BVIs in the Caribbean - a collection of sixty unspoilt islands including four larger islands - Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. With 300,000 acres of coral reefs the BVI is a snorkellers' heaven where you may spot the leatherback turtle, an occasional visitor which weighs around 600kg or the commonly found Hawksbill and Green Turtles. Other underwater sights include caves, tunnels, shipwrecks, giant boulders and grottoes. Explore Virgin Gorda’s natural granite pillars or try the national dish, ‘fish and fungi’. Visit the iconic ‘Willy T’s’ near Norman Island, a floating Pirate Bar which serves cocktails such as Dark and Stormies, Rum Punches and Bush Whackers. For hiking enthusiasts, the island’s highest point is at Sage National Park in Tortola, which looks out across the archipelago. On the nature trail at Bones Bight in Anegada, catch a glimpse of the rare rock iguanas or pink flamingos. Take a dip at Jost Van Dyke’s White Bay Beach – listed as one of Forbes’ “Best Caribbean Beaches For 2019”.

For a taste of paradise on the other side of the world, The Moorings’ base is in Palma on the island of Mallorca. Mallorca has played host to many celebrities including Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. Mallorca has more than 540km of coastline, 300 days of sunshine per year and a wide variety of beaches, from sandy coves to pebbled waterfronts. Sample local produce at Santa Catalina which has Palma’s oldest food market and see yellow and red painted facades of traditional houses, rustic green wooden shutters, and small front balconies adorned with plants and flowers. Visit La Madeleine de Proust for a buttery croissant, fruit tartlets and freshly baked olive bread. Explore the Island’s caves, the Coves del Drach on the east coast; a surreal underground collection of giant stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes. Palma’s Old Town has gothic architecture built in the 14th century, including the ‘La Seu’ Cathedral. Continue your adventure with a journey to nearby islands Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.

A Moorings 4000 catamaran for up to 6 people is priced from A$7,295 (or $1,215 pp with 6 people) for a 7-night charter in the BVI and from A$5,595 (or $930 pp with 6 people) for a 7-night charter in Spain.

The Moorings offers self-skippered monohulls; sail catamarans with a skipper; a high-performance power catamaran or a crewed yacht with a captain and chef.

The Moorings was founded by Charlie and Ginny Carey as a slim fleet of six yachts in the British Virgin Islands. Since then it has grown to be the world’s most renowned and largest fleet in charter history and has expanded to 20 destinations across the world including St Martin, Seychelles, Tahiti, Thailand, Italy, Greece and the Bahamas.

Final weeks of Mandela My Life: The Official Exhibition - must close March 3

Final weeks of Mandela My Life: The Official Exhibition - must close March 3

In less than 4 weeks' time on March 3, Melbourne Museum must close the doors on Mandela My Life: The Official Exhibition, marking the final chance for Australians to experience a rare and touching glimpse into the life of one of the world's most iconic leaders.

Since its opening in September last year, thousands of visitors have been guided through ten expertly curated galleries, observing and interacting with over 200 artefacts from The Nelson Mandela Foundation and Nelson Mandela's private collection. Emotive, insightful and multi-sensory, the exhibition has left visitors with a rich sense of Mandela's extraordinary living legacy.

Produced by iEC Exhibitions, TEG Live, and Museums Victoria, in full collaboration with The Nelson Mandela Foundation of South Africa, the exhibition features the most comprehensive collection of original artefacts, documents, personal items and artworks ever to be shown outside of South Africa, showcasing personal moments in Mandela's life alongside the events and influences that led to his leadership.

The journey through Mandela's story begins with his childhood in the Transkei, followed by his early life in Johannesburg where he began to establish himself as a political activist, underscored by audio-visual pieces and personal photographs.

Visitors have discovered the covert anti-apartheid activities that shaped Mandela's daily existence, aspects of his life in prison on Robben Island, and how he felt on his first day of freedom when he was released from Victor Verster prison in 1990. The final chapter journeys through Mandela's landmark years as South Africa's first democratically elected president, and the indelible mark he made on people around the world as a global leader.

Tickets are $32 for adults, $22 for concession and students, $17.90 for 13-16s and children 12 and under free. Adult and museum general entry bundle $30. Book online at www.ticketek.com.au to save 10% on tickets for the final chance to see Mandela My Life: The Official Exhibition before it closes on March 3.
