SAA BRINGS ITS FLAGSHIP AIRCRAFT ONTO PERTH-JOHANNESBURG ROUTE

South African Airways has introduced its newest aircraft, the state-of-the-art A340-600, onto the Perth Johannesburg route.

According to SAA's Head of Australasia, Thevan Krishna, the new aircraft began operating five times a week from Perth early this month, significantly adding to the airline's capacity out of Australia.

"We have seen big demand by both recreational and business passengers for more seats to South Africa and believe our new Airbus will help us meet our needs," Thevan said this week.

"We have great confidence in the Australian market and are seeing renewed interest by the tourist, VFR and business sectors. We are also seeing big growth in the MICE market and have been carrying a number of both large and smaller groups to Africa," he said.

"Among the features of the new aircraft are personal seat-back videos in economy class, an extra 18 business and 65 economy class seats (with our award-winning lie-flat beds in business class on all flights) and improved menus and onboard service."

"We are also offering our very popular "Adults at Kid's prices" special fares for travel in November 2008 and in January to June 2009, making the cost of a flight to Africa more affordable than it has ever been," Thevan said.

"2008 has already seen major challenges with high fuel process impacting on airlines around the world. But with the value of the South African rand to the Aussie dollar makes South Africa very much a value-for-money destination for recreational and business travellers," Thevan said.

"SAA is the fastest, most direct way of getting to the African continent and in the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup, we are very excited about the future and welcoming more Aussies on board SAA," Thevan concluded.
