Taiwan International Orchid Show to Bloom in March 2010

Orchid enthusiasts from around Australia and throughout the world are expected to attend the Taiwan International Orchid Show (TIOS) scheduled from March 6 - 15, 2010 at the Taiwan Orchid Plantation outside the nation’s capital of Taipei.

The annual event incorporates a large number of vibrant floral displays including the exhibition of numerous species of rare orchids.

During the TIOS there will also be competitions, an international orchid symposium featuring noted speakers and specialists in orchids and orchid nursery tours.

The purpose of the TIOS is to promote domestic and international technology exchanges, expand export sales for Taiwan’s orchid industry and establish the event as the global platform for the world’s orchid industry.

One of the first tours to be developed for the floral event is from the Brisbane-based ATM Group.

Priced at $2699, twin share plus taxes, the 10 day Taiwan Luxury Orchid Tour 2010 includes return air fares with China Airlines ex Brisbane, nine nights of accommodation with breakfast and some meals, A/C transfers and tickets to the Taiwan International Orchid Show.

As well, tour participants will experience the Taiwan Lantern Festival, visit the Taroko Gorge, tour major scenic and natural attractions including the old gold mining village of Chiufen north of Taipei and stay at the luxurious Lalu Hotel which overlooks Sun Moon Lake.

The highlight of the tour will be the grand opening of the orchid show on March 7 at the Taiwan Orchid Plantation.

The nation’s largest orchid production centre is located in Tainan County, a fertile area southwest of the capital, Taipei.

The aptly named Taiwan Orchid Plantation is an ultra modern 143 ha. orchid research and development park located in Wushu Village, Houpi Township, Tainan Country.

More than 50 horticultural companies grow orchids in this hi – tech biotech facility. Orchid exports account for about 70 per cent of all of Taiwan’s horticultural exports.

More than 200,000 visitors attended the TIOS 2009. Several thousand foreign visitors ranging from professional growers to serious hobbyists came for the blooming event last year.
