Aurora Expeditions adds Everest Trek to celebrate 60th anniversary

PLUS Everest Information Evening

Aurora Expeditions are delighted to announce the addition of a new land-based expedition to Nepal in their 2013 program. Two Himalayan treks will celebrate the 60 year anniversary of the first ascent of Mt Everest, and will be led by Aurora's climbing guru, Tashi Tenzing, also the grandson of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who completed the first ascent of Mt Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. The 'Classic Everest Trek' has been a migration route of Sherpa's for over a thousand years, and covers spectacular highlights of the Everest region.

The chance to be led through the Everest region by Tashi Tenzing is an incredible opportunity. Having climbed Everest 3 times himself, Tashi will regale stories of his own experiences and the fascinating history of his Sherpa heritage.

A maximum of 15 trekkers will enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful Himalayas where Sherpa culture still thrives. Gain insights into Sherpa culture and the incredible history of the Tenzing family. Guests will meet family members and have the opportunity to visit Tashi's grandfather's house in Thame.  This small community of Sherpas are renowned for being the strongest in the region and between them have climbed Everest over 1000 times.

The Classic Everest program is a relatively gentle trek with an average of 3-4 hours walking per day. Trek through national parks illuminated by wildflowers, cross icy rivers, visit monasteries and enjoy the breathtaking mountain vistas. Accommodation comprises six gorgeous lodges owned by the Tenzing family - providing an authentic experience with a high standard of mountain accommodation.  After a day's trekking, guests can enjoy a hot shower followed by pre-dinner drinks and a feast of Nepalese food. Take a walk under the stars, then recline by the open fire or study the rich tapestry of family photos adorning the lodge walls.  An optional 30 minute helicopter flight to Everest base camp is also available.

Aurora Expeditions have picked the two best times of year to trek in Nepal. Springtime is the perfect time to visit the Everest region, as wildflowers emerge to fill the mountains in a swathe of colour. Early Autumn's post monsoon environment is the most popular time to trek with similar moderate temperatures and astonishingly clear mountain views. The Spring trek departs Kathmandu from 18 April  to 1 May 2013 (13 days) and the  Autumn departure from 17 September to 30 September 2013 (13 days). Classic Everest trek prices start from US$4190 per person.
