Queensland's Top 5 Australia Day bashes
1. Cockroach Races at the Story Bridge Hotel, Brisbane
Now in its 31st year, the iconic Cockroach Races are serious business with tiered seating, Miss Cocky competition, prizes for best dressed, live bands and 14 cocky races. BYO cockroach or buy one from the stable on the day.
2. Dunny Races at Aussie World, Sunshine Coast
Fun and games at Aussie World and the Ettamogah Pub kick off with the famous Dunny Races, a Ute Show and over 30 rides and games inside Aussie World, including brand new water ride Plunge, thrill ride Redback and fun Giant Slide.
3. Great Australia Day Beach Party, Yepoon
Get into the Aussie spirit with the bare-bottom boat regatta, ice-cream eating competition and egg-tossing championship, and be entertained by live performances, market stalls, street theatre and rides.
4. Pig Races at The Paddo, Brisbane
Bid on a pig to race at the Paddo’s annual pig races, with all proceeds going to the Australian Liver Foundation. There’s six races culminating in The Cup with over $1000 in the prize pool.
5. Great Aussie Meat Pie Challenge, Cairns
With $1000 up for grabs can you beat last year’s champion? Tuck into the challenge at Cazalys from 12:30pm. There’s plenty of fun for the kids with face painting and a jumping castle.
