THANKSGIVING, THE MAYAN WAY

AT HACIENDA PETAC, YUCATAN

Turkey goes underground

Yucatan, Mexico…Hacienda Petac invites your friends and family to celebrate Thanksgiving at a gracious five-bedroom, meticulously restored estate just one-half hour from Merida in the Yucatan.   Truly escape from the usual crowds and hotel hassles into another world this holiday and celebrate our great tradition in a Mayan way.

This holiday special includes all meals, pampering staff of 20, excursion, a soothing rosemary oil massage, and of course, Thanksgiving dinner…Mayan style…turkey adapted to the traditional "Pollo Pilibi" or "chicken cooked underground" recipe.  It is cut into pieces, seasoned with achiote and sour orange and wrapped in banana leaves.  It is then buried in the ground on top of hot rocks which are heated by a wood fire. The pit is completely covered over and the pot with the turkey is left to cook.  The smoky flavors mixed with the achiote, orange, tomato and onion make a savory and delicious dish.

Along with the celebrations you will enjoy five spacious, beautifully furnished guest rooms, each with soaring ceilings and native-stone bathrooms with shower and tub. There are acres of gardens and trails pleasing birdwatchers and naturalists, a swimming pool and bikes available for explorers.  Their spa, offers a rich variety of treatments based on the Mayan tradition, many using home-grown and prepared products like rosemary oil and ginger flower essence. For guests who wish to explore the diverse attractions of this region, several of the world's finest Mayan archeological sites, wildlife reserves, and underwater caves are within an hour.

Rates for our holiday package are $1200.00 per night up to 4 guests, $1500 per night up to 7 guests and $1785 up to 10 guests.  It includes accommodations, full service staff including concierge/manager, all meals and non-alcoholic beverages, one massage, one excursion, and round-trip ground transfer between M√©rida Airport and the Hacienda. (3% government tax not included.)
