Earlybird Saving of AU$1500 Per Couple on Antarctica Expeditions Including Shackleton Centenary Voyage

Australian tour company, Active Travel, is offering a flight credit of AU$750 for each traveller who makes an earlybird booking on one of seven selected Antarctica cruise expeditions, including a special Shackleton centenary voyage, this November and December.

The complimentary airfare credit is valid for bookings made before April 30, 2014 on one of the selected round-trip itineraries aboard the 95-passenger, hull-strengthened and fully stabilised polar expedition ships, Akademik Sergey Vavilov and Akademik Ioffe. The cruises range between 11 and 20 days in duration and depart from the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, in Argentina.
A highlight of this Antarctic season is a special 20-day, ‘Shackleton Centenary Voyage’ from Ushuaia on November 21, 2014, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary but ill-fated expedition to cross Antarctica on foot.Shackleton’s ship was crushed by pack ice in remote waters before the trekkers could be landed, sparking a remarkable 20-Antarctica - Active Travel - Zodiacsmonth bid for survival in tiny boats and on deserted islands that ended with Shackleton earning hero status for ensuring all of the 28 crew returned to civilisation alive. The voyage visits the Falklands, the Antarctic mainland and islands brimming with penguins and seals that featured in Shackleton’s survival tale, including Elephant Island and South Georgia, where Shackleton was buried at the request of his wife in 1922 after he suffered a heart attack in Brazil on a return expedition to Antarctica.
The Shackleton Centenary Voyage is available from US$14,395 per person, twin-share, ex Ushuaia.
Three earlybird saving departures of December 8, 10 and 18 are also available for Active Travel’s 11-day Antarctic Peninsula Adventure which takes passengers from Ushuaia across the Drake Passage to the icy continent for five days of exploration and wildlife viewing using the ship’s Zodiacs. The unique experience of camping overnight on the ice is included in the fare. These cruises are available from US $9195 per person, twin-share. The December 18 departure promises a white Christmas on ice, and is priced from US$10,095.
A 13-day ‘Active Antarctica - Off the Beaten Track’ cruise is also available from Ushuaia, departing on November 8, 2014, which offers seven days of Zodiac excursions ashore as well as optional active pursuits like ski touring, snow shoeing and overnight sea kayaking (some optional excursions are at additional expense). This voyage is priced from US$9595 per person twin-share, ex Ushuaia.
All Antarctic cruises include meals during the voyage, Zodiac excursions, ice camping and polar clothing and footwear hire. Flights to South America are not included and can be booked through Active Travel, with a AU$750 per person air credit available for bookings made before April 30, 2014, on seven selected departures this November and December. Solo travellers willing to share a cabin can be paired with other single travellers of the same gender at the twin share rate.
* Cruise fares are subject to availability at the time of booking. Cruises are listed in US dollars. Complimentary air credit amounts are Australian dollars and applicable for flights booked through Active Travel in conjunction with selected Antarctic cruises.
