Norfolk Island Stages International Golf Challenge

Looking across Emily Bay to Norfolk Island Golf Course

Norfolk Island is set to host the second annual Governor's Cup, an international teams event offering $10,000 worth of prizes on the island's ocean-front golf course from November 15-22.

The par 72, 18 tee course winds around the southern edge of beautiful Emily Bay, offering magnificent views of the lagoon and neighbouring Nepean and Phillip Islands.

One of the oldest courses in Australia, it was opened on the edge of the island's Georgian-era penal settlement in 1909. The clubhouse is a sandstone building erected as the stipendiary magistrate's residence by convicts in the 1840s and officially consecrated as a golf club by Queen Elizabeth on her 1974 visit.

Entries are open for men, women and mixed teams of two playing a four ball best ball on day 1, two-person Ambrose on day 2 and a four ball aggregate stableford on day 3. Social events include a welcome night and presentation dinner at the close of the tournament.

Norfolk Island appeals to Australians because it is one of the most affordable international destinations available, providing an exciting mix of action, nature and history.

Norfolk Air flies to the island three times a week from Sydney and Brisbane, each Monday from Newcastle and each Friday from Melbourne, with flights from the Gold Coast to begin in October.

The Norfolk Island Travel Centre has a special Governor's Cup package available for Aud$2062 per person out of Brisbane and $2125 per person from Sydney. The prices include return airfares to Norfolk Island, seven nights twin share accommodation at Governor's Lodge Resort, seven-day car hire (car insurance and petrol are extra), daily fully-cooked breakfast, Governor's Cup green fees and competition entry fee, welcome happy hour and buffet dinner, Governor's Gala Dinner and Presentation and other extras.
