New Timetable for The Overland!

A new timetable has just been introduced for The Overland, making the scenic rail journey between Adelaide and Melbourne even more convenient.

Launched on 3 January 2011, the new timetable means that arrival and departure times at locations enroute are now consistent from day-to-day.

Arrival and departure times have also been matched as closely as possible to that of regional Victorian bus services making connecting journeys easy.

The Overland is an economical way to travel between Adelaide and Melbourne (or vice versa) with a special Adult Return fare just $99 and a standard Adult fare $90 one-way.

Up to 40kg of luggage can be checked-in* and guests can even bring their car on the Motorail wagon, allowing the flexibility to self-drive at the destination or to drive one-way.

With three services in each direction per week, The Overland is an essential transport link for regional South Australian and Victorian communities and also the best way for holiday makers to travel between Adelaide and Melbourne.

From January, Victorian commuters are also enjoying increased capacity aboard the train with seats reserved specifically for Victorian commuters available for purchase through the V/Line system at V/Line prices.

Recently it was announced that Stawell will be added to the scheduled Victorian stops in 2011 following a $710,000 upgrade to the station. The Overland also stops at Geelong North Shore, Ararat, Horsham, Dimboola, and Nhill in VIC, as well as Bordertown and Murray Bridge in SA.

"A journey on The Overland allows guests to enjoy the scenic south-eastern corner of Australia from a comfortable reclining chair with plenty of leg room," said Chief Executive of Great Southern Rail, Tony Braxton Smith.

"The new timetable, fare savings and improvements in seat capacity and ticketing for Victorian travellers show that Great Southern Rail are continuing to improve The Overland service for commuters and holiday makers alike," said Tony.
