Alaska 2014: Un-Cruise Adventures Increases Deployment

Un-Cruise Adventures announced its deployment plans today for the 2014 Alaska cruise season with seven vessels carrying 22-88 guests sailing 12 different itineraries ranging from one to three weeks duration. 

New in 2014, the 88-guest S.S. Legacy sails 10 weeklong Heritage Adventures between Ketchikan and Juneau, Alaska.
“2014 marks our largest, most diverse season in Alaska yet with more departures than any previous year,” said Dan Blanchard, CEO and principal for Un-Cruise Adventures. “Our three adventure styles—Active, Luxury and Heritage—offer more choices, but they all give you the awe-inspiring nature and wildlife of Alaska up close, personal, and unforgettable.”
Heritage Adventures
The 88-guest S.S. Legacy joins the fleet in Alaska for its first season of weeklong Heritage Adventures between Juneau and Ketchikan, Small boat tour exploring the face of a glacierAlaska with 10 departures scheduled from June 15 through August 17. An Alaska’s Golden History itinerary visits Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Glacier Bay National Park, Haines and Skagway; Frederick Sound and Icy Strait are prime whale watching territory. A 11-night Gold Rush Legacy cruise between Seattle and Juneau (and reverse) will be offered in June and August.

The replica coastal steamer harkens back to the gold rush days of ’98 with period décor, old world charm and a rollicking saloon. History of the Klondike Gold Rush comes alive through on board presentations, crew in period costumes and character reenactments led by the vessel’s Legacy Leader. In port, guests enjoy included guided tours to historical points of interest. Heritage Adventures begin at US$5,195 per person, double occupancy.

Active Adventures
Three expedition vessels sail weeklong Active Adventures out of Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka, Alaska from April through September. The 76-guest Wilderness Explorer embarks on its third season of Northern Passages & Glacier Bay cruises sailing one way between Juneau and Sitka, Alaska (and reverse) with three days spent exploring inside Glacier Bay National Park. With no scheduled port calls, guests enjoy exploring remote Alaska around Icy Strait, Chichagof Island and Baranof Island and maximize time for adventure activities and up close encounters with wildlife.

The 60-guest Wilderness Adventurer and 76-guest Wilderness Discoverer sail a Western Coves itinerary between Ketchikan and Juneau, Alaska and an Eastern Coves itinerary between Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska. The Western Coves explores rarely visited areas in the Inside Passage including El Capitan, Chatham Strait, Dawes Glacier in Endicott Arm, Ford’s Terror, Frederick Sound and a half-day port call in the Native village of Klawock. The Eastern Coves explores around the mainland visiting Tracy Arm Wilderness, Frederick Sound, Thomas Bay, Misty Fjords National Monument and a half-day port call in Wrangell. In spring and fall, 12-night cruises between Seattle and Juneau (and reverse) are offered. Active Adventures begin at US$1,595 per person, double occupancy.

Luxury Adventures
Three upscale vessels—22-guest Safari Quest, 36-guest Safari Explorer, 86-guest Safari Endeavour—sail Luxury Adventures roundtrip Juneau, Alaska with two days spent exploring inside Glacier Bay National Park. A Discoverers’ Glacier Country itinerary makes no port calls, and in addition to Glacier Bay, spends the week exploring nature and wildlife in remote Alaskan wilderness around Icy Strait, Chichagof Island, Baranof Island, Frederick Sound, Endicott Arm and Ford’s Terror. In spring and fall, 12-night cruises between Seattle and Juneau (and reverse) are offered. Luxury Adventures begin at US$4,195 per person, double occupancy.

Ultimate and Ultra Adventures-Active Adventure itineraries may be combined to create four longer itineraries of 14 and 21 nights.

Kids in Nature
On select Kids In Nature departures, families with young children are encouraged to sail together and enjoy an expanded program of activities geared to kids of varying ages and activity levels. On these sailings, kids 12 and under receive 25% off regular cruise fare. In 2014, Kids In Nature cruises are offered on the Wilderness Adventurer- July 19, July 26 and August 9; Safari Endeavour-July 20; Safari Quest-June 20 and July 18.

Active and Luxury Adventures include adventure activities: kayaking, hiking, skiff excursions, whale watching and paddle boarding. Snorkeling, overnight camping ashore and massage are offered for a fee on Active Adventures. Luxury Adventures include a massage and premium wine, micro-brews, spirits. 

Heritage Adventures include shoreside tours in each port; whale watching; a massage; premium wine, micro-brews and spirits. Wellness amenities on all adventures include fitness equipment, hot tub and yoga on deck (no yoga or massage on Safari Quest). Transfers are included. Charter and group incentives are available.
