Annapurna Cycling - Snowy Horizon AdventureDownhill in the Himalayas
Added to the 5500 ‘wind-in-your-hair’ bike tours in 104 countries already featured on www.cycletoursglobal.com, the 10-day ‘Annapurna Fun Ride’ is run by Snowy Horizon Adventure and is rated as easy to moderate, with almost the entire route taking riders downhill from the alpine meadows of the Himalayas to the lowland jungles of Nepal, covering far more territory than trekking trips.

Departing every Saturday from Kathmandu from September 14 to November 16, 2013, and from March 1 to May 16, 2014, the round-trip from Kathmandu  starts with a short flight to Jomson (2800m) from where guests will ride through Buddhist villages and down through the deepest valley on Earth in between the 8000m-plus peaks of Annapurna and Dhalagiri. A flight from Pokhara back to Kathmandu ends the adventure.

Including mountain bike hire, lodge accommodation, all meals on the bike expedition, B&B accommodation in Kathmandu, a farewell dinner and two flights within Nepal, the package is priced from A$2200 per person, twin-share. Flights to Kathmandu are extra. Visit www.cycletoursglobal.com.

Each day’s ride is guided and trailed by a support vehicle offering drinks, snacks and a comfortable seat if the going gets too tough, although the tour operator promises pedallers will be singing ‘Ain’t no mountain high enough’ at the end of the week. The seven-day trip from Classic Cycling Tours is priced from £599 per person (about A$1021 as of early September, 2013), twin-share, including chalet accommodation, daily breakfasts, afternoon teas and snacks and dinners.
