1.     Beijing
China has 43 World Heritage listed sites.  Six are situated in the Beijing area including the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Peking Man site at Zhoukoudian and the Ming Tombs.
 
2.     The Yellow Mountains
Towards the end of September, the Yellow Mountains come alive with Autumn colours.  The Yellow Mountains is one of the most famous and most beautiful mountainous areas in China.  The mystical-looking area (due to low clouds) features pine trees, sheer rock faces and hot springs.
 
3.     Pingyao Ancient City

4.     Kanas in Xinjiang
Kanas Lake and the ancient Tuvas Village is one of the most beautiful natural sights in China.  In September the area is vividly colourful with a graceful landscape of red, green and yellow around a mysterious emerald lake (complete with lake monster if you believe the locals).
 
5.     Fenghuang Ancient Town
This graceful town, surrounded by mountains and a river, with unique wooden buildings and colourful ethnic customers is a photographers delight.   Fenghuang, which means Phoenix in Chinese, has been heralded as one of the most beautiful towns in China and features more than 300 items of cultural significance to experience.
