ARTISTIC HUB COMPLETE WITH OPENING OF ART SERIES STUDIO THE SCHALLER STUDIO

As a first for regional Australia, The Schaller Studio officially swung open its doors on the 22 May, providing a contemporary accommodation solution for Bendigo with the signature Art Series Hotel Group art inspired twist. The hotel is the launch property of the Studio concept for the Group, an affordable, compact version of the brand perfectly suited for regional Australia.

Will Deague, CEO, Art Series Hotel Group Says;

“The opening of The Schaller Studio is an acknowledgment of the growing art and cultural scene in regional Australia, of which Bendigo is a true leader. The hotel will harness the growing trend of Australians looking to take shorter local breaks to explore their own backyard rather than heading overseas.”

The 128 room, The Schaller Studio draws from the art and cultural overtones of Bendigo City, while being inspired by namesake artist, Mark Schaller and his renowned expressionist work. The hotel promises to be a place for contemplation, creation and inspired thinking, making it the ultimate launch pad for a culturally rich Bendigo experience.

A vibrant art offering awaits guests to The Schaller Studio with 240 pieces of original works on display across a variety of disciplines including oil on canvas, wood and bronze sculpture and mosaic. Beyond the hotel, The Schaller Studio is proud to be official hotel partner to the wildly successful Bendigo Art Gallery. Guests can immerse themselves in the Bendigo art scene with a combined stay and visit to the Gallery, with access to shows such as the upcoming, “Undressed: 350 years of underwear in fashion” from the 19 July.

Artist Mark Schaller comments;

“It is just awe inspiring to see the hotel finally finished. It is the largest collection of my work ever exhibited and I am truly taken aback to see it all in one home and to be honoured in this way. I can’t wait to visit the hotel regularly and share in the Bendigo experience.”

On arrival, guests are greeted by an impressive eight metre high mural – The Family: About joie de vivre (celebration of life), a perfect inspiring and uplifting centre piece for the hotel given the hotels placement alongside the $630 million Bendigo Hospital redevelopment.

A welcoming communal space awaits guests bursting with art, colour and human energy. A modern-day take on a country guest house, the entry and ground floor includes reception, The Pantry (a café come lounge bar) and a series of homely spaces to meet friends, work or get the creative juices flowing whilst utilising the sketch pads and utensils in the library space brimming with Australian art books.

The Pantry, open daily from 6.30am – 9.30pm, offers food for thought and grazing type meals celebrating produce from the local area including Locheilan Cheese and Harcourt Cider. Inspired by Mark’s very own

home and studio in Abbotsford, the space evokes a warm and convivial feel for hotel guests and Bendigo locals with earthy wooden tones and textures, large communal tables with bentwood chairs and snug leather sofas by an open fireplace.

The Schaller Studio ‘Workspace’ (rooms) combine Art Series Hotel Group’s signature comforts with the latest technology including 42 inch TVs, docking stations, free WI-FI, coffee pod machine, microwaves and luxe EVO amenities. Every room features an original artwork by the artist (for sale at $4000 a pop) and a balcony overlooking the ground’s landscaped gardens or city centre.

All staff at The Schaller Studio will be fully trained by Art Series Hotel Group’s art curator and be able to offer informative tours of the hotel while offering the best insights to cultural experiences available in the city’s centre. For guests looking to venture further afield, Lekker bicycles and Smart Cars will be available for hire to explore the rich cultural offerings in and around Bendigo.
