Floriade 2010 - Imagination: Where Will Yours Take You?
Unlock your imagination in 2010 with Australia’s premier spring festival. From 11 September to 12 October at Commonwealth Park, over a million stunning blooms will set the scene for a festival that promises to stimulate the imagination.
Be intrigued by the inspired garden bed designs; captivated by the artistic entertainment; fascinated with the engaging exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops; enjoy family time with fun kids’ activities and enchanted by the beautiful ambience of NightFest.
This year a range of new and exciting events and activities will make Floriade the perfect springtime escape.
Be transported to another time and place at the Da Vinci Machines Exhibition where Leonardo’s incredible inventions come to life. The ticketed event features more than 60 machines based on Da Vinci’s original drawings, including his amazing flying machines, nautical, hydraulic and architectural innovations, and war machines.
Celebrate the strength of the human spirit and the life difference that organ and tissue donation makes at the 12th Australian Transplant Games opening ceremony and concert. Compete against transplant recipients when part of Commonwealth Park is transformed into a pétanque playing ground.
Let this year’s horticulture program capture your imagination with dozens of exciting demonstrations, activities, displays and events. Learn how to create your own kitchen garden or simply admire the endless possibilities of floral design. Be inspired by the showcase gardens and the infinite possibilities for transforming your backyard.
Celebrate the art of fashion design at two new exhibitions by talented fashion design students. The Imagination and Innovation Exhibition takes you on a creative journey from ‘Concept to Catwalk’ while the Once Upon a Time Exhibition transports you to by-gone eras with amazing theatre costumes.
Visit the Lindeman’s Open Garden and discover the new and deliciously fruity Lindeman’s Sweet Seasons range or choose from the Early Harvest range. Get the creative juices flowing by entering the Hanging Basket Competition for a chance to win amazing prizes.
Floriade 2010’s entertainment program celebrates creativity, innovation and talent with amazing roving entertainment, comedy and uplifting musical performances by renowned Australian artists, including five-time platinum recording artist Katie Noonan and her new band, The Captains.
This year Nighfest adds a new ingredient to the mix with Garnier World, a living, breathing beauty paradise where you can be pampered with a complimentary treatment including mini massages, facials or a hair style.
Kids will love the National Zoo & Aquarium’s Riveting Reptiles Exhibition and meeting their favourite farm animal at the Patting Paddock as well as other fun activities at the Kid’s Corner.
