JIA Shanghai Voted on Travel + Leisure's 'It List' of World's Top 30 New Hotels

JIA Shanghai has earned a prestigious spot on Travel + Leisure magazine's 'It List 2008' of the world's top 30 new hotels.

Opened last year, JIA Shanghai is the only hotel in China included in the annual international accolades.

Travel + Leisure heralded JIA Shanghai for bringing "a much-needed dose of boutique intimacy to the city's booming hotel scene".

The trio of up-and-coming designers who crafted the eclectic Asian-contemporary interiors – Andre Fu, BURO Architects and Darryl Goveas – were singled out for creating "a well-choreographed hideaway of dark wood floors, richly embroidered fabrics, and elegant birdcages, which sit alongside Knoll and Moroso furniture"

The judges added: "Given how frenetic Shanghai is, we loved the property's host of cozy amenities: well-stocked marble kitchenettes, in-room board games, and help-yourself (complementary) tea and bottled water. There's even free Wi-Fi – still a luxury among upscale properties."

Recognition by Travel + Leisure follows hot-on-the-heels of JIA Shanghai's recent nomination on the highly coveted annual Condé Nast Traveler "Hot List" of the hottest new hotels, restaurants and spas around the world.

In a 1920's building on fashionable West Nanjing Road, the 55-room JIA Shanghai is nominated on Travel + Leisure's 'It List' in such prestigious Asia company as Peninsula Tokyo, Banyan Tree Maldives and St. Regis, Singapore.

Internationally, it ranks alongside luxury properties including The Plaza, New York, Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya in Mexico and The Connaught, London.

"We are thrilled to receive a second prestigious accolade within the first year of opening," said JIA brand developer, Singaporean entrepreneur Yenn Wong. "We are proud to have created a unique and exciting new venue in Shanghai."

Travel + Leisure's 'It List' covers six continents with hotels ranging from stylish beach resorts to newly redone city hideaways and eco-friendly retreats, with rates priced from US$155 to US$4,600 a night. The entire list is detailed online at www.travelandleisure.com/itlist.
