Officine Panerai is the sponsor of Mike Horn's new mission. The celebrated South African explorer will leave the Principality of Monaco in May on an expedition lasting four years. In several stages his journey will take him to all the continents including Antarctica, with the intention of sharing awareness of the current state of our planet so as to make public opinion aware of this important problem. The name of the expedition is 'Pangaea' and - in accordance with the motto of the expedition 'explore, learn, act' - Mike Horn will not restrict himself to observing but will be actively involved in trying to make our planet a better place.

The headquarters of Pangaea for the four years of the expedition will be a ship equipped with many innovative technologies. Constructed with respect for the environment, this vessel was designed and built in South America, it is equipped with communication and conference facilities, and it can host 30 people in board.

During the expedition Mike Horn will be working together with various educational institutes and local experts in each region. The young adults will experience the values of sharing and 'real life' experiences while exploring with Mike and with the specialists the young adults will be taught about the environment and important environmental issues that effect our world today. These young adults, whilst supported by environmental specialists, will engage in clean-up projects and other environmental projects that will benefit the inhabitants, the environment, and most importantly, the future of our planet.

This new challenge of the explorer who became famous for reaching the North Pole on foot is of course supported by Officine Panerai. The Florentine company, which has become celebrated throughout the world for its highly technological, innovative sports watches has asked Mike Horn to wear a specially designed model, thus putting it to the test. Respecting Panerai tradition, it will be a laboratory watch on which studies measuring its resistance and functionality under extreme conditions will be carried out. The watch will also be tested during the mission.

Officine Panerai has always believed in values such as the respect for tradition, the search for excellent quality, solidity, innovation and respect for the environment, the latter already being a value given concrete form through its support of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge circuit of regattas for traditional and vintage yachts.

During these four years, Officine Panerai will be the promoter of a series of information and awareness activities closely linked with the values of the Marque and its watches.
