P&O Cruises hosted a luncheon to showcase its new enhanced menu aboard the Pacific Dawn superliner to media representatives in Sydney last week.

Created to compliment their all Australian and New Zealand wine list, the new menus mark the completion of a nine-month program to enhance the dining experience across P&O’s fleet, with a focus on fresh, local produce and flavourful food.

Guests at the luncheon were served spiced duck with peach and sweet chill compote matched to a Leasingham Bin 7 Riesling; a beef ribeye steak with gratin potatoes, shallots and three-bean casserole with a Glandore Shiraz; and seared fillet of fresh coral trout with sapphire bay prawn ragout with a Kanook Chardonnay.

A plate of mini desserts consisting of mango crème brulee, tiramisu and a trilogy of chocolate mousse was also served and washed down by a Stella Bella Pink Muscat.

P&O vice-president of hotel operations, Sture Myrmell, said the changes were designed to reflect the rapidly growing interest in food and wine in Australian.

“Australians are creative and have high expectations when it comes to dining and we want to exceed those expectations,” she said. “We are taking the onboard culinary experience to a different level with our fresh new dishes which reflect what our passengers want.”

The luncheon also featured entertainment by the Sit Down Comedy Club and the superliner’s newest offering – a laser light show featuring laser women and accompanied by a powerful soundtrack. Presented from the ship’s three-level atrium, the viZion Laser Show is exclusive to Pacific Dawn and is an Australian cruise industry first.
