Season 2008 – A Snow Season To Remember

As the last lifts turned at Hotham Alpine Resort in Victoria yesterday, staff and guests reflected on what has been a truly incredible season.

Although Mother Nature took a while to cooperate at the start, she treated Hotham to a fantastic July, August and September by dumping a total of 3.28 metres of snow. The highest average natural snowdepth reached was 163cm in August.

Powderhounds were not disappointed this season with plenty of opportunities to carve first tracks after fresh snowfall and FREE kat skiing off Golden Point opened up even more terrain to find those powder pockets. The biggest snowfall was on July 11 when 30cms fell overnight.

Belinda Trembath, General Manager, Hotham Skiing Company said,” We had 56 nights where the temperature did not get over 0 degrees - a bonus for our fabulous snowmaking team who made the most of the ideal conditions and our new $3.3M snowmaking investment.”

September saw some of the best spring skiing on offer in years with fantastic snow and bluebird skies. The final days of the season gave both seasoned Hotham holidaymakers and first-timers the opportunity to hit the slopes for final turns and enjoy the last days of skiing and riding.

Hotham Alpine Resort opens again on Saturday 6 June, 2009.
