Everest by Motorbike Extreme Bike Tours to Take Riders to Mt Everest Twice in 2014

Road to Everest2One of the world’s leading motorcycle tour companies, Extreme Bike Tours, will take riders – and pillion passengers – to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, Mt Everest, twice in 2014 as part of two  Himalayan expeditions through Nepal and mystical Tibet.

Starting in Kathmandu on September 7, 2014, and also September 21, 2014, the two, 14-day Tibet tours will take riders across the remote and treeless expanse of the 4500m-high Tibetan plateau – billed as the roof of the world. The breathtaking route also takes in the Dalai Lama’s spectacular Potala Palace in Lhasa and remote Tibetan villages and monasteries and traces some of the world’s highest roads leading to the 5200m-high Everest Base Camp - as close as two wheels can get to the planet’s tallest peak.

Guests will ride legendary Royal Enfield 500cc Royal Enfield Desert Storm motorbikes, which were once manufactured in the UK but are now made in India and tailored to handle the rough and winding roads of the Himalayas.

Everest camp3Each of the free-wheeling, two-week expeditions is available from US$5250 for licensed riders and US$4450 for pillion passengers riding behind friends or crew or in support vehicles. Fares include accommodation in hotels and guesthouses along the route as well as all meals, fuel and the support of sherpas and bike mechanics during the trip.

Featured on TV’s ‘Top Gear’ program, in 2011, Extreme Bike Tours is based in India and owned by former Englishman and adrenalin junkie, Zander Combe. Up to 80 per cent of riders are from Australia and New Zealand.
