Between 10 and 17 April 2014, a two night room package is available from just THB 16,688* for two guests, including two nights’ accommodation in a Deluxe Room, daily breakfast at the River CafĂ© & Terrace and a two-hour trip along Bangkok’s canals and the Chao Phraya River. So that guests can join the fun, watery activities central to the festival, a Songkran Survival Kit is also included – complete with a water pistol, scented powder for sprinkling on fellow travellers and a traditional Thai Songkran costume per person.
Also known as the “Water Festival”, Songkran’s celebrations last for three days. Water is believed to wash away all unfortunate luck during this time, so it is a time for cleaning houses, villages, temples and spirit houses. Songkran is synonymous with the act of gently pouring water on the shoulder of elders, family members and friends. While this version of water throwing is still practiced today, it has also transformed into full-scale water battles, where everybody participates in a fair game of water drenching using water pistols, hoses and buckets.
* This Songkran package is based on a minimum two nights’ stay. Price is subject to tax and service charge. Bookings must be made by 9 April 2014.
