The Ashes to Start in Cardiff For the First Time in Cricket History

On Friday 27th February VisitBritain along with Visit Wales held a media lunch to celebrate The Ashes starting in Cardiff for the first time ever. In attendance along with Judy Watkins Regional Manager VisitBritain was Roger Pride, Marketing Director of Visit Wales and Paul Russell Chairman of Glamorgan Cricket Club.

Paul Russell is responsible for bringing The Ashes to the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff for the first time in 2009. The Australia verses England match will be the first time an Ashes test has been held at a new venue for more than 100 years and the first time in cricket history that an Ashes test match between England and Australia will be played anywhere other than England or Australia.

This is a fantastic way for Wales to showcase their country. Already known for many TV shows being filmed there including the ever popular Dr Who series and of course the world famous bog snorkeling championship.
As well as The Ashes, Wales can also boast being home of The Ryder Cup which will be held in 2010. In another first this event will be played at The Celtic Manor Resort, the first golf course to be built specifically for the tournament.
