Delta Air Lines has further raised the stakes in the fierce trans-Pacific price war by announcing launch return air fares from Sydney to Los Angeles from $777 plus taxes and charges.Business class starts from $7,777 plus taxes and surcharges.
Daily flights begin on July 3, subject to Government approval, with the launch fares on sale until April 9 for travel between July 3 and October 31.
Flights will depart Sydney at 9.15am, arriving 6am the same day and return LA at 10.40pm arriving in Australia at 6.40am two days later.
The carrier is also offering travel beyond LA with return economy fares from $977 plus taxes and surcharges to Atlanta, Boise, Detroit, Indianpolis, New York, Orlando, Memphis, New Orleans, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Cincinnati. Business class is $9,777.
Delta will operate Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on the Sydney to LA route.
In a separate development, the airline this morning confirmed that from today Global Aviation Services will represent both Delta and subsidiary Northwest Airlines in the Australian market.
Stop Press: Delta Airlines has just announced that "due to competitor activity" it's cutting its launch fares between Australia and the USA to $747 plus taxes.
The previous $777+taxes fare level was exclusively revealed in Friday's Travel Daily and went on sale this morning.
The $747+taxes economy fare utilises Delta's extensive US network and is applicable for flights from Sydney via Los Angeles to Atlanta, Boise, Detroit, Indianapolis, New York, Orlando, Memphis, New Orleans, Seattle, Salt Lake City or Cincinnati.
The special price is available for sales effective immediately until 09 Apr, for travel from 03 Jul-31 Oct 09.
