Tourism Queensland campaign tempts Aussies to spend their bonuses in Queensland

A new Tourism Queensland campaign encouraging Australians to spend their federal government bonus on a Queensland holiday kicks off this weekend.

CEO Anthony Hayes said Tourism Queensland had partnered with travel wholesaler Infinity, retailer Flight Centre, airline Virgin Blue and more than 150 Queensland tourism operators from across the state to develop the “Bonus Breaks” campaign, which offered some amazing Queensland holiday deals across the state.

“We have pulled together 158 offers ranging from free nights to room upgrades, breakfasts, transfers, discount vouchers and ‘buy one, get one free’ offers for a range of tours across the state’s prime tourism destinations,” Mr Hayes said.

“Even though we are facing some tough economic times, there is a still a lot of optimism amongst the Queensland tourism industry and a willingness to look at new ways of boosting travel to the state.

“We have been delighted by the response from industry.”

Mr Hayes said packages started from $129 per person for three nights on the Sunshine Coast, $165 per person for three nights on the Gold Coast, $399 per person for three nights in Tropical North Queensland, including airfares, and $615 per person for four nights in the Whitsundays including airfares.

“The federal government is encouraging us to spend our bonus, so we have to be on the front foot by getting in first with some great offers,” he said.

“At the moment Tourism Queensland’s focus is on hard-hitting tactical marketing aimed at getting more heads in beds and more bums on seats now when we need it the most.”

The four week, $1.3 million Bonus Breaks campaign begins this Sunday, and will primarily target Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne holidaymakers through a range of television and print advertisements and through Flight Centre stores nationally.

More than 50,000 southern households will also receive a special “bonus offer” in their letterboxes later this month.

The campaign deals are on sale from this weekend with travel from now until September.
