Celebrity Solstice Turns Five!

The team from Celebrity Cruises and friends celebrated last night as Australia’s youngest and highest
CelebritySolstice_DLPhotographyrated superliner* Celebrity Solstice turned five years old!

To mark the occasion, an exclusive birthday party for 70 guests was held onboard at the ship’s Lawn Club against the beautiful backdrop of Sydney harbour. The theme of the evening was Modern Luxury – the signature style that Celebrity Cruises and Celebrity Solstice are known for. A beautiful array of canapés and cocktails were served, designed to showcase the wide collection of dining available onboard the ship including treats from the onboard specialty restaurants: Murano, Silk Harvest and Tuscan Grille.

ECelebrity Cruises asked their Facebook fans what present they wanted to give Celebrity Solstice for her 5th birthday. The winning suggestion was a lamington cake in the shape of Australia. The impressive cake was created onboard by a team of highly skilled pastry chefs and was presented to the Captain on the night.

Adding to the Australian theme, entertainment on the night was provided by Sonic Duo – a musical pair hailing from Brisbane who are entertainers onboard the ship.

Gavin Smith, Regional Vice President Asia-Pacific of Celebrity Cruises, said: “We are thrilled to have Celebrity Solstice in Sydney this month as she celebrates the milestone of five years. Celebrity Solstice was the first superliner of her kind. She revolutionised cruising in Australia when she arrived in 2012, impressing guests with unique, never before seen at sea features and stunning modern luxury style. She’s Australia’s highest rated superliner and her popularity locally continues to grow.”
  • Celebrity Solstice’s unique features include: the Lawn Club - half an acre of freshly manicured real grass on the upper deck; a glass-blowing studio from the famed Corning Museum of Glass; and 85 per cent of staterooms with their own private balcony – the highest ratio of any superliner inCelebritySolstice_DLPhotography the world.
  • After debuting in the Caribbean and then the Mediterranean in 2008, Celebrity Solstice relocated to Australia & New Zealand in late 2012 – becoming the newest and highest rated cruise ship* to be based in the region – and now spends her year between Australia (Oct-Apr) and Alaska (May-Sep). Celebrity Solstice has visited Sydney 11 times so far.
  • Since her launch in 2008, Celebrity Solstice has completed 210 cruises and carried two thirds of a million happy guests.
  • Over the past five years, she has spent most of her time sailing the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, based in Fort Lauderdale, Barcelona and Rome.
  • Celebrity Solstice has sailed in all three of the major oceans: she has crossed the Atlantic six times and the Pacific Ocean twice; and sailed the Indian Ocean en route to Australia.
  • She has crossed the equator three times now – each time with a special ceremony conducted by the Captain.
  • The ship has witnessed some incredible sights including earlier this year being in San Francisco for the America’s Cup.CelebritySolstice_DLPhotography
  • Celebrity Solstice is the largest cruise ship ever based in Alaska.
  • Celebrity Solstice is the most travelled ship in the Solstice Class and she features "the most travelled lawn in the world".
Celebrity Cruises commenced cruising in Australia in 2007. Celebrity Solstice will be joined by a second Celebrity Cruises ship, the 1,800-guest Celebrity Century, in September 2014 for the summer 2014/15 season.
