Indonesia's most popular base for diving and marine adventure – Manado in north Sulawesi – is set to have its first internationally branded hotel - Novotel Manado. The hotel is scheduled to open on May 9, 2009.

Novotel Manado is a new 152 room including 24 two bedroom suites that is part of an integrated development called Grand Kawanua International City.

Grand Kawanua is being built on 180 hectares of land and will eventually become a mini-city, with 1,500 luxury houses, the city's largest convention centre, shopping centers, office compounds, and an 18-hole golf course, which is already completed. The convention centre will be the venue for the World Ocean Conference in May, which is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates from more than 100 countries.

Manado is a picturesque city located on the sea-front surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. The major attractions for visitors are the region's magnificent coral reefs and white beaches. Bunaken Island, now a protected marine park, offers some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world. It is easily reached from Manado with hundreds of charter operators providing day trips and tours. 

Away from the sea there are many volcanoes – such as Lokon and Mahawu volcanoes – as well as caves and lakes that attract adventure travellers from around the world.

Novotel Manado will provide much needed international standard hotel accommodation to the city. The hotel boasts an impressive range of food and beverage outlets including the all-day dining concept, The Square, a Japanese restaurant, Wasabi, and the Dragon Phoenix (serving Cantonese and Szechuan specialties).
