Want to plan a gourmet getaway this Queens Birthday weekend? Or a midwinter’s break? Somewhere nearby where food, wine and relaxation come first? Here are A&K’s top getaway tips for Foodies this Winter.

Tastes of South Australia
Those wanting to escape urban confines for an indulgence close to home should look no further than South Australia. The world famous Barossa Valley wine-producing region is a highlight, where guests can try their hand at winemaking, sample gourmet fare and bed down at The Louise, an idyllic gourmet retreat. Then there’s an outback experience at Arkaba Station with a hosted homestead dinner. In the Clare Valley enjoy more home cooked fare, before jetting down to Kangaroo Island and stunning Southern Ocean Lodge where ocean, beach and wilderness combine to create the most spectacular wilderness setting. A private dinner for two is organised in the cellar one evening and there’s a master class showcasing the island’s rich produce.

A&K’s 9-day private journey ‘Tastes of South Australia’ is priced from $10,234.

Tasmania on a Platter
Quaint historic villages, seaside towns, fine food and wine and exquisite boutique accommodation make Tasmania a unique and rewarding short haul getaway. Though small in size, it is rich in culinary invention. Gourmet experiences abound, and with A&K you are treated to private wine tastings, local picnic hampers, artisan chocolate and berry wine tastings, dinner at Saffire Freycinet’s award-winning Palate and a degustation lunch with matching wines at The Source restaurant at MONA (Museum of Old and New Art).
A&K’s 8-day private journey ‘Tasmania on a Platter’ is priced from $5,874.

Queensland Gourmet Getaway
Escape cooler climes and head north to Queensland for a gourmet getaway staying at two luxury lodges from the award-winning stable of Spicer’s Retreats. See why two of their restaurants were winners at the 2013 Australian Good Food & Travel Guide’s Chef Hat Awards. A degustation dinner is organised at The Peak plus a 3-course lunch in the Granite Belt wine region, with matching wines, a French inspired degustation menu at the Long Apron Restaurant at Spicer’s Clovelly Estate, a Thai cooking class and a 3-course dinner of local produce.
A&K’s 5-day private journey ‘Queensland Gourmet Getaway’ from $3,555.

Gourmet W.A.
Australia’s Southwest corner is blessed with a magnificent coastline and is home to world-class vineyards and extraordinary gourmet produce. The Margaret River wine country comes to life as your own guide chauffeurs you from vineyard to vineyard, meeting vignerons, sampling the local drop and arranging a private barrel tasting along the way. The region also produces apples, avocadoes and green tea plus the rare black truffle, which you’ll have the chance to try. Dinner at the internationally renowned Cape Lodge restaurant comes highly recommended.

A&K’s 7-day private journey ‘The Gourmet Southwest’ from $2,775.
