Sydney, 25 February 2009. Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, today announced that the airline has launched round-the-world fares from Sydney starting from $2499, inclusive of tax. The fares coincide with his 'Round the world in 8 days' tour, celebrating the 25th birthday of Virgin Atlantic and the launch of V Australia on Friday, 27 February 2009.
Passengers will be offered two ticket options for their round-the-world trip- 'Virgin Global East' and 'Virgin Global West'. The East option takes passengers from Sydney to Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong and back to Sydney. The West option takes passengers from Sydney to Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles and then back to Sydney.
Speaking today in Sydney, Sir Richard Branson said:
"Passengers now have a fantastic choice to make - which way to go around the world with Virgin! From Friday, go West with Virgin Atlantic or East with V Australia. A consistent product, along with legendary Virgin service is something that passengers have been holding out for - at last it's here!"
Richard has been celebrating the launch of the new global Virgin network and Virgin Atlantic's 25th birthday by travelling around the world in 8 days. The charismatic boss is also on the lookout to find the world's best 'Richard look-alike'. Fares are also able to be booked round the world not only from Sydney, but from other cities around Australia too. Virgin Blue will act as a feeder from various points including Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide to Sydney for passengers to take their 'East or West' option.
The special round the world launch fare of $2499 is valid for departures from Sydney only between 28 Feb – 31 May 09 and 20 Aug – 11 Nov 09. The fare will be on sale from today until 04 Mar 09. The special launch fare along with fares from other points around Australia can be booked through the Virgin Atlantic call centre on 1300 727 340 or any licensed IATA travel agent.
