Gastro Travel the Greek Isles from Southbank

Greekalicious cooking school founder Maria Benardis, and Kouzina's restaurateur Theo Kostoglou join forces for the ultimate seafood lovers' gastro-journey across the Greek Isles, Tuesday evening 10 March 2009, 6:30pm.

Part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (7 - 23 March 2009), the exclusive six-course Greek degustation is a culinary adventure – showcasing the heavenly flavours, methods and ingredients used in ancient Greek cuisine across Greece's stunning shores.

Using the freshest Australian seafood, the traditional spread includes starters of zesty green salad with pomegranate and pastourma, and Maria's infamous ouzo spiked Oysters. Mains of Swordfish souvlakia with fennel and parsley salad; mastic-infused Prawns wrapped in crunchy kataifi pastry from the island of Chios – home of the mystical masticha tree; Prawn and Scallop filo parcels with Greek saffron from Kozani - a spice cultivated in Greece for thousands of years; and deep fried cumin Calamari; reveal dishes not widely known in Australia.

A sumptuous 'surprise' Greek dessert and plenty of matching wines throughout are set to the mythical sounds of the Greek bouzouki. Maria's lively storytelling tops off a culturally unique evening, and a truly distinct sensory experience.
