SkyAirWorld stops flying

Source: Travel Daily

FLEDGLING carrier SkyAirWorld has announced a decision to “temporarily pause all flying operations in the short term.”

The carrier, which this week announced new services from Perth to Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands (TD yesterday) said the move was due to the“ongoing deteriorating economic conditions facing the aviation industry”.

A number of agents have contacted TD complaining about clients who weren’t notified that the Honiara service on Sat had been cancelled, with passengers offered refunds rather than alternative arrangements.

SkyAirWorld ceo, David Charlton, said the carrier regrets the impact the decision to stop flying would have on customers and staff.

“This action, though regrettable, is necessary to ensure the long term sustainability of the organisation,” he said.

He insisted that SkyAirWorld was still committed to the launch of the new Christmas Island flights which are set to debut 03 Apr.

The SkyAirWorld website doesn’t mention the suspension of all flying operations, continuing to list schedules for three weekly flights from Brisbane to Honiara.
