China's "other side"

For pre or post Games touring, or for travellers who have already experienced Shanghai, Beijing, Xian and a Yangtze cruise, Yunnan Provence – known as "the other side of China" – beckons ……

New China package

China's "other side"

See snow-capped mountains, glaciers, mountainside azalea and rhododendron forests, monasteries and temples, the headwaters of the Mekong and Yangtze rivers and meet the peoples of some of the 25 ethnic groups of China's southern Yunnan Province in a 14-day tour packaged by Orient Express Holidays.

The Yunnan Panorama tour operates until November and is priced from $4,810 per person, based on minimum two passengers twin share.

The price includes three Yunnan Province flights and taxes, all accommodation (four to five-star where possible and special or historic buildings), most meals (all evening meals are at a local restaurant), transportation, fees (sightseeing, entry, permits), English-speaking driver and Tibetan and Chinese guides, airport meet-and-greet and four bottles of mineral water per day during touring.

International airfares to Yunnan Province capital Kunming are additional.

Additional detail

This tour is based on two people, guaranteed, so two people can have their own driver and guide in a car. The group can grow up to 20 which would travel in a mini coach, and pay less per person as a group booking.

This is a tour for second and third-time visitors to China who have already experienced Shanghai, Beijing, Xian and a Yangtze cruise, according to Orient Express Holidays. It offers the wonders of the remote and rugged Yunnan Province with expert guides and the comfort factors of good accommodation and food. Evening meals are in select local restaurants (rather than hotel restaurants) which accentuates the insights the tour offers to this fascinating, spectacular and relatively tourist-free region. A moderate level of fitness is required for walks to some key sites.

The tour was designed 10 years ago by Dr Tony Lee, Associate Professor of Zoology at Monash University, initially for the academic market. In recent years it has been marketed to the broader community following the tour ownership moving to Transglobal Destinations. Orient Express Travel Group now owns Transglobal Destinations and is marketing this package under the brand Orient Express Holidays.
