Malolo Island Fiji celebrates its reopening today after completing an extensive F$5.5 million refurbishment project. This major multi-million dollar investment will see a significant enhancement in the room product, food and beverage outlets and guest experiences. Welcoming its guests with a traditional Fijian Kava Ceremony, Malolo resort's traditional landowners' chief, Ratu Waisea Cava, visited today together with the Malolo Talatala (minister) to give Malolo a special blessing.  Along with the official guests, the resort's first arrivals, the Sommer family from Australia were also given a special greeting and traditional Fijian welcome.  This is the fourth visit by the Sommer family.

Closing for nine months following severe Tropical Cyclone Evan in December 2012, the award-winning resort has undergone many improvements and introduces new facilities, including new staff accommodation and amenities, a new maintenance workshop and new laundry.

In keeping with its colonial theme, guests can now also enjoy the new restaurant complex, comprising the 100-seater Terrace Restaurant for families and Treetops, a 60-seater, air-conditioned restaurant catering for guests 13 years and over.  Treetops also provides a stunning breakaway dining experience for groups and weddings and is the perfect venue for small meetings and conferences.

Both restaurants overlook the resort's pools and lush gardens, close to the new F$1 million state-of-the-art, fully equipped kitchen and bar.

Malolo has a leading reputation for excellence in food variety, quality and value for money, offering a multi-national flavoured menu with local Fijian touches.  As the resort reopens, it is proud to introduce its new Executive Chef team: Executive Chef Yngve Muldal and Head Pastry Chef Rhéa Pacaud.

Yngve and Rhéa bring extensive experience from restaurants and venues around the world, most recently from the Diamond Class galleys of Etihad Airways.  Drawing on their global culinary expertise, their menus will include quality Asian and Pacific Rim cuisine, using only the finest products and combining local ingredients and themes to tantalise even the most discerning taste buds.

With the increase in the size of the restaurants, the resort will provide further improved facilities including a new teenager lounge, and adults-only retreat.

Malolo has also added a new covered Arrivals/Departures Bure and a new activity beach hut, incorporating the dive shop.

A final noteworthy addition is the introduction of a fourth Family Bure. This new Bure now provides Malolo with four of these immensely popular rooms, increasing the overall resort inventory from 45 to 46 Bures.  This Family Bure is part of a newly constructed, two-storey beachside building which houses two Family Bures – one at ground level and one above it.   These rooms sleep up to seven people and comprise two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a spacious living area and open veranda.

Group General Manager, Steve Anstey says, "We are delighted to celebrate our opening day and welcome our family of guests back to Malolo after a significant investment in the resort facilities that will enhance the guest experience and service levels.  We live in a beautiful part of the world - pristine oceans, tropical climate, warm and friendly people.   One of our families is returning for their fourth visit, and we are honoured they continue to choose Malolo as their Fiji holiday destination.

"There are so many people to thank – especially our valued guests for keeping the faith, but mostly to our incredible family of staff who have been through so much but continued to work tirelessly over the last nine months alongside our builders, to ensure our beautiful, little resort would once again flourish.

"Malolo's improvements cement its reputation as a superb destination for families, as well as offering a beautiful wedding and conference venue.  With our unique Kid's Club offering and Malolo's stunning barefoot in the sand Fijian island holiday experiences, we're giving the whole family the wonderful opportunity to be together, yet still enjoy  'me' time with plenty of breakout areas in which to relax."
